Ok...got a lovely email from Marnie. Due to confidentiality I can't share it in its entirety and have changed the childs name to SHE. But it is a wonderful story.
Here is my happy story for the day (this was last week but I forgot to send it)...
A guy who worked with Sompop has a little girl who has cancer. SHE is 9 and has relapsed and is in her second round of chemo at Georgetown. Now that I work at Georgetown I get to spend lots of time with her and her parents. I have frequently commented on how much SHE reminds me of Hayden (my niece). They don't look much alike other than the long skinny legs, but have a very similar spirit and sense of humor. A few weeks ago SHE was in the hospital getting chemo and was looking through my iPhone and fell in love with the blue dress that Hayden wore to Julie's wedding. SHE kept telling me how much she loved Hayden's clothes and her style! I mentioned this to Katie who immediately had Hayden clean out her closet and they sent an entire box filled with dresses and purses and other cute clothes to me to give to her. It just so happens that right now SHE is in the hospital for a week-long chemo round and has been feeling a little down this time around. You should have seen her eyes light up when I told her a box had arrived full of Hayden's clothes for her. So SHE came to the Child Life play room and went through the box (made her dad leave and just invited the girls - me and the child life interns to participate). We all sat in the playroom while SHE went through each dress and item of clothing. She LOVED the white dress with the sparkle sash! She also liked the pajama pants and said, "I will wear these all the time!" The funny part was when we were done and she had to go back to her room to get her chemo SHE insisted in carrying the box of clothes herself all the way back (and it wasn't light
So thanks to Katie and Hayden for making everyone's day here so much brighter! Also Hayden - now you have the bet excuse for getting new clothes - you can hand them down to HER when you outgrow them!
Hugs,
MarnieI LOVE Marnie, Katie, and Hayden!!!!
