Ok, i'm at a standstill w/ Brookster here and to be honest it's driving me bonkers So she knows all her letters and can spell lots of words but the writing is, well, slacking She can write all the letters in her name, in order even, not perfectly but just fine like for her schoolwork stuff. She will work w/ Dad on letters but not w/ The Momma anymore I realllly reallly want her to be able to write her name, on the line, in the lines, before kindy. I've tried allllll kinds of neet tricks to help her but she just insists on writing them all over the darn paper How do I get her to understand to write the letters between the lines? Also, should I just stick w/ the writing the letters in her name for now untill she gets it down pat? She loves to play "spell the word" and she might like to learn to write the other letters too instead of she spells the word and mom writes the letters. Sooooo confused!!

Not sure if you know about the writing program called " Writtimg without tears" We used it for Adam and it did wonders. As for writing between the lines, well Adam not 13 able to print just about anyhting at about a grade 3 level still writes some letters as big as a page. LOL. What we tried is making spider legs design on top of the sheet of paper and tell him he has to stay between the spider legs. Works sometiems but not always. Also Adam has a curbed hand and has a hard time doing the pincer to wrote . I was told it is all in the way they hole the pencil, so we remind him to hide his finger behing the pencil. Hope this works. If you want some info on the writting program just google it. Most schools are using it now.

Jennifer,
Collin is now 11 and it's funny how things have changed for me and him. Collin has very good hand writting but it was not always that way and especially at Brooks age.
All I can say is it will come...Collin needed time to mature and when he did...it was there.
Keep in mind even typical kiddo's don't always go into kindy writting their name, especially between the lines.
Hugs! Connie

I have just looked at the Hw/oT program. After talking w/ Brooks teachers and a few friends who know Brook well, we ordered the kindy book. We shall see how it goes. Leah also gave me a great idea to make little boxes and learn to write the letter inside the box. What a GREAT idea!!! Brook loves it. I'll have to snap a photo of her boxes tomorrow. Thx Connie Brook can write her name, it's the staying in the lines thats hard for her I spose as long as she gets her name on the paper that will do for now. We still have a few months before kindy

She may just not be developmentally ready yet.....I've learned over time that Ethan has his own timetable, and that his and mine don't always jive, KWIM?
That doesn't mean to stop trying, I like the boxes idea, but maybe back off on it for a little while. I've become very sensitive over time to the fact that Ethan can sense my frustration, and I don't want him to feel like he's letting me down. So if we're struggling with something, we give it a rest for a little while, and then come back to it after a few weeks or a month.

I found paper today with raised lines on it. It's from Beyond play. Their website is www.beyondplay.com, you can request their catalog from there, and their number is 1-877-428-1244. The paper is on page 17 of their current catalog.
