last year we had to file a complaint wth the idaho department of education. we had tried unsuccessfully to get the spec teacher to give victoria half day of inclusion in mainstream. after the state stepped in we finally got some cooperation though grudgingly.
we compromised and victoria got one hour in mainstream to see how it would work out. it was great, every kid in the school knew her and greeted her in the halls. we had made a terrible enemy of the spec teacher and two of her henchmen. after complaining of psycological abuse in the class and being ignored then told we didnt know what we were talking about the teacher was caught abusing another child (using isolation and peer ridicule as weapon of choice) she we were told resigned.
victoria went to a spec ed class in the next town. she was doing very well we had one hour of mainstream class until december when the spec ed teacher asked us to forego mainstream during the winter months because it was across campus and she was afraid for victorias health (actually her own) i finally forewent the hour of inclusion with the proviso that beginning of march victoria went back to her old schedule, mean while we got a new spec ed teacher who didnt not know of the arraingement. march came and went and i wrote a letter to remind them of our agreement. she never heard of it, wrote me a letter and wante dto schedule a meeting to talk about "victorias best interest" i called the head of the spec ed but none of my calls were returned, so i had it out with the spec teacher. one of the things that pissed me off was that the teacher said victoria cant do fourth grade work. i said OF COURSE SHE CANT OR SHE WOULD BE IN THAT CLASS ALL DAY LONG, PLZ DONT EXPLAIN TO ME THAT MY DAUGHTER HAS DOWN SYNDROME, I GOT IT! i want her in that class to learn socialization skills not to do algebra, i ended my rant with a threat to once again file a complaint with the department of education. an hour later i got a call from the head of the spec ed apologizing for the misunderstanding, and that victoria would be back in her class as soon as they figure out a schedule.
