providencia rettgeri Some weird 3rd world county bacteria.Who knows where she got it. The best we can figure is from some food somewhere. Has to be a food none of the rest of the clan ate and thats odd b/c the kid eats everything we do LOL ;D Dr Tami was even stumped as to what this was so she had to call the infectious disease place. They asked her lots of questions she said and they need to contact me as well. weird She will take a round of Cipra, stay out of the sun and drink lots of water. BTW, she has NONE of the symptoms of this bacteria either which makes it even more weird. Tami said they ran the pee test twice b/c the pee tester place couldn't believe what they were seeing. I guess they called to ask if she had a new patient from over seas. I tell ya, this kid, shes a handfull, for sure.

I am glad to hear that the lab ran it twice. That shows vigilance. Has she had a catheter recently?

Nope, no cath. The CDC sent me the most vague anwser the other day. P. rettgeri is a gram negative bacteria that can be found in many animal, bird, and snake species. It is also found in soil, water and sewage. When it causes infections in humans the infections are commonly urinary tract infections as the GI tract can harbor this bacteria. It can be the cause of other types of infections. They did ask alot of questions though. They will call back after the follow up pee test. Reallllll helpful. Not! Our resident doc on the board here, Jackies hubby Ed, said its all over but doesn't get diagnosed alot. (isn't that what it was Jackie. I didn't go check exact wording) Anyway, she has been having her meds and seems just the same, fine. Ha! I even asked the pharmacist, my doc and Marys doc when we were there today and none of them have ever heard of it. Weird. Oh well, now we have and now were all a little smarter
