Not sure if you remember the problems she's been having from my post a few weeks ago. She seemed to be getting better for a few days. Monday she started the crying unconsolable and holding ehr belly again. It got worse as the week went on. she missed a lot of school being late or coming home early. She really wanted to go to school. Yesterday she cried ALL day unconsolable wanted a warm towle on her belly and for me to rub ehr back. She didn't eat much all day and never got out of bed. Later in the day I went ot the market and my DH called and wanted to take her back to the ER. It had gotten worse. By the time I got home she was on the tiolet crying and had aweful diarhea. this continued all night I had to give ehr a bath twice because she even did it in her sleep. She also got her period. this seems to be the common thread I was looking for, her period. I', thinkng it may be related to ehr period hormones in some way. I feel so aweful for her she's been in such pain on and off for over a month with only a week or so of good days. She woke up and was pretty quiet this morning and is now back to sleep. *************************************************** italked with Kathleen's primary care dr. and she's scheduled for an ultrasoound on Thursday. Has she been tested for celiac disease? Just a thought, because it can cause some serious digestive upset, pain and diarrhea.....

Laura, That's on my list of things to check I've thought about that possibility. The one thing that pointed us in the direction of doing the ultrasound first was that it seems to be related to her menstrual cycle. She would get her period almost the same time the diarhea started. Her period both times has been extremely lighter and she's even had a change in her urination durring this time. instead of her usual peeing up a storm, it's been just the opposite she would go several hours and still not want to go I would have to insist she go and try. I appreciate all the godd thoughts prayers and information you can share with me.

I've had phases where I would have diarrhea only during my period. How interesting. I alwasy just assumed it was hormonal-which I have a lot of hormonal issues!

I know it's common to have diarhea durring your period but this is so not like Kathleen. She's usually constipated. Also the extreme pain that has her crying unconsolable and doubled over for days is what is most concerning to me I think. The pain doesn't completely end after the period either last month it continued for weeks so it ended up that she only had one good week. Mary Grace

Has she had an ultrasound? Wondering if she might be experiencing ovarian cysts. Those can be extremely painful, I've heard!

She's scheduled for an ultrasound Tomorow. Laura, since you mentioned celiac, I just googled menstrual cycle and celiac (since this seems to be acting up around the time of her period) and it's surprising that there are a lot of women with this complaint that even when they're gluten free they have some symptoms around the time of their menstrual cycle. Interesting... Mary Grace

Poor Kathleen! I hope they get figure out what is causing her pain. When I was a teenager, I would get horrible diarrhea, extremely painful menstrual cramps and sometimes vomiting as well. My back also felt like it would break in two. I use to just sit on the toilet and rock back and forth with a heating pad on my lower belly. It was a miserable time. Fortunately, these symptoms eased up over time but I still get cramps every month and I am 53! I have found that if I take Advil before my period starts, it helps keep the cramps under control. It is much harder to control the pain once it starts. If Kathleen is regular with her periods, this might help. Poor baby! Chris

Thank you all for your great input on this. I'm just soooo fustrated and it breaks my heart to see her in pain. She had her ultrasound yesterday now I wait to hear from the Dr. Since it's Friday I will call this afternoon if I haven't heard anything I hate to wait the weekend. Kathleen's period has been over (only lasted four days and was mostly just spotting)but the pain is still there. Just like last month it's worse in the morning. She has not had a BM since the Diarhea Saturday. Mary Grace
