We just returned from California........part vacation and partly a trip to take Emily to an eye specialist who supposedly knows more about Lebers than anyone else. The trip turned out to be absolutely perfect! ! ! We had a blast with family and saw so many things! We started out in Phoenix and went to the Grand Canyon and to Hoover Dam and Vegas.......then on to CA where we spent time with our oldest son and his precious daughter and also saw my 2 sisters and their families. One of my favorite parts of the trip was going to Palm Springs and doing the arial tram ride...BEAUTIFUL scenery! ! ! We took over 1000 pics!
So the REALLY big news: After going through a 3 hour eye appointment, the doctor said that Emily's eyes have DRAMATICALLY improved! ! ! He said she has had the most exciting improvement he has ever seen! She is still "legally blind" (20/200), but that is 3 times better than last September. He increased her medication and added an eye drop for her to use daily, and he wants to see her once a year. (Such a pity......have to take a trip to CA every year! Just kidding....we love to go there!) He was SO kind and thorough and explained the disease to our whole family very careful. I appreciated that he took the time to talk to Jordan, because he is actually at huge risk of developing the disease. It was just a very favorable report and I'm very very thankful!!!
Emily is going to a week long camp starting tomorrow at the Tennessee School for the Blind. They will focus on cooking skills with limited vision........right down her alley! She is eager to go.
Before we went to CA, we had started to notice that she would sometimes say "look Mom, that says...........". She was again able to read signs, notice restaurants in the distance, etc. (She went through months where she could not do that at all.) So, we are very excited and happy for her!!
Please continue to pray for Emily...........it's working! ! !
