Ethan is officially darn near hairless. I was really at a loss, and he had pulled a ton of hair out of one side of his head. The longer hair at the crown was still hiding it, but only just barely. So, we shaved it off. It's not as horrible as I feared it would be, but it still made me cry. I put Aidan in the chair after him, and when she asked me what to do with his hair, I told her to cut it to match so Ethan's wouldn't look like an accident.
My biggest fear was that his head would look lopsided under his hair, because he had to wear one of those helmets when he was a child. He had torticollis, and the neck muscles on one side were really tight, so he always slept in the same position, and like many kids with DS was slow to sit up, so he spent an extra couple of months always laying in that position and developed a flatter spot. I was thrilled to see that his skull has rounded out nicely. PHEW!!!!
The up side - we're at Great Wolf Lodge and their hair dries fast, LOL! They both actually seem to like it, and I'm hoping that it will redirect Ethan and give us some time to rework his sensory diet before the school year starts. I'll post pictures soon. I think.

It did seem the most likely solution... I'm glad about his head rounding out - more options that way, and Great Wolf Lodge sounds like loads of fun. You HAVE to post pictures now, btw...
