I was just seeing if anyone has been through what Im going through now.
Ashlie was referred to an Immune Specialist since she is always sick, She goes on 6 week course of Omnicef to get over a simple cold and a week after being off of them she gets it back. Her ENT ruled out Sinusitis with a CT scan saying nothing showed up showing she had it.
So her Immune doc did a bunch of blood work with her TCells coming back low.
Then he sent her off for some more and that coming back with her
T and B lymph coming back low
White Count Low
CD3 low
CD4 low
CD8 low
We are waiting for more tests to come back before he diagnosis her with anything or starts anything but I was wondering if anyone else has been through this?
Thanks
Heidi
UPDATE:
Ok there is bad news and good news, The good news is Ashlie doesnt have cancer ( I was worrying about this) The bad news is he said with her Immune System the way it is she is at a higher chance of getting it and therefore will be watched closely. He said the only way of honestly telling if anyone has leukemia is by a bone marrow biopsy and he said doing that could lead to an infection and he said honestly Ashlie's body couldnt fight off that kind of infection so he is leaving her alone unless she shows signs of Anemia out of the blue he isnt doing it.
Ashlie's Immune system is like that of a 70 yr old person
Its Low and not in the best of shape, They cant do anything to improve it just try to prevent infections. He said he is starting her on 3 months worth of anti's and they are 3 differnt kinds one every month and we will be rotating them. He said he prays it works as a preventive and not against her since she has been on so many anti's all her life. He said you Absolutely cant take chances with her getting sick. the first sign of a fever or sniffle Im supposed to call him and he is putting her on a break through antibiotic. He said her Immune system is that of an Aids patient just not having Aids.
Her T Cells are really low but her CD4 and CD8 which are helper cells basically dont function right for her.therefore causing her White Blood Cells and T Cells not being able to fight infections off.
He said if you want the hard truth her health is going to detireate(sp?) and her life span wont be as long as expected so dont take chances on colds or infections. Even a scratch she has to be put on something
The good thing is I am such a spaz on my kids getting sick since Ashlie does so easily and always has that they arent kids that are allowed to play outside in the snow when its freezing outside, they dont play in the rain and they wear coats according to the weather. They wash there hands after bathroom breaks and before and after the eat. But you can only do so much. And lets face it getting a cold is easy to do they are airborne and easily brought home from school.
She follows up with more blood work in December and then every 6 months after that.
He said down the road we may be looking at bone marrow transplants but he doesnt want to do that right now since her body cant handle it.
So he said its a toss up on what to do with her so we are trying the 3 different anti's and doing the breakthroughs when needed followed up by lab.
Thanks for your prayers everyone I really appreciate them as we will never be out of the woods with Ashlie we can only love her for what we have of her and I plan on doing that everyday.
