Thanks Jackie, That's what i've heard. Making it through the day on just liquids so far isn't going over too well. She finally settled fro an orange slushy for breakfast. She's already asking what's for lunch and dinner... I made jello jigglers but that didn't go over too well either. this all may seem more appealing if it 80 degrees instead of about 39. Tomorrow morning can't come soon enough. Mary Grace

Well her colonoscopy was done on Wednesday morning. We did the "prep" a whole bottle of Miralax with Gatorade and 2 Dulcolax. Here's the kicker... it didn't work on her! she had a little watery stools at around 8/9 pm and then fell asleep. She was so tired from crying for food I think. I knew she wasn't "cleaned out" so I woke her up around 4 to sit her on the tiolet. She did a little more and some on ehr way to the hospital (she had a pad on luckily). He did the procedure and talked with me later. She had what he called "decreased mucosa vascular pattern throughout ehr colon". Not sure what this means exactly but he biopied that. He said she had a lot of very hard stools left which he did manage to navigate through. Then he broke the news to me that we needed to do another whole day of "prep" !!! Yikes! What an awful couple of days. She wanted to eat so bad. She did settle for slushies and broth which when I asked ehr how the broth was she said "it's scrumptious". I bet it was after 2 days of gatorade and no food. It still hasn't cleaned her out yet I'm shocked that that much Miralax hasn't unclogged her. She did wake up about 3 this morning and sat for over an hour and did quite a bit but it's still not very clear looking. (sorry TMI) He feels she's been like this for a very long time and her bowls never really empty. Could be the Down syndrome and/or the strokes. Also still some pain and constipation from the celiac disease. We've only been on the diet for about 4 months. He recommened Mirlax everyday for a while and see if it can keep her from getting bound up again. Thanks for the support... Hopefully the Mirilax will wrok today and clean her out. Mary Grace

Actually Emily has Hirschprungs. She was diagnosed at birth which is most unusual but had surgery looking for something else when she was 3 days old. I will give you a site but there are many online including good ones when you google up Hirschprungs and DS en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirschsprung's_disease

Hiya Mary Grace. Poor Kathleen... Ya know my hubbys colonoscopy is always a success due to him taking lactulose daily then of course the dreaded junk they give u the day b4. But his doc said it was so easy for him cause he is normally taking lactulose. Believe me it is sweet and has the consistency of motor oil or more like corn syrup and just a little bit works like a charm. Its not harmful unless of course someone has waaaaaay too much. But his doc n I were saying it would be great if all the colonoscopy patients could take a small dose of lactulose the week prior then do the other the day prior to the procedure. It made it much easier when he took that stuff they give u the day b4. Ask the doc bout hirchprungs can't hurt. And ask if she could take a small dose of lactulose the week prior. Really all it does is keep u from being full of $%. My hubby takes it cause of his liver #2 lingering in a person with liver disease is a surefire way to high ammonia levels and encephalopathy. my mom even used it b4 her colonoscopy with her docs permission of course and his prescription of lactulose. Couldn't hurt that sucks the day b4. hope all goes well
