My son Dave is now 4 months old and we're about to begin sleep training. Has anyone else attempted sleep training and are there any issues that could affect the training related to down syndrome? Thanks!

Hi! Just wanted to welcome you! As far as sleep training goes, do you mean getting him to sleep all night? If that's the case, I have no words of wisdom for you. My son that has DS slept through the night practically from day1, I had to set an alarm and get him up to feed him!
Anyway, welcome, and congratulations on your son!!

sleep training was something we did with our daughter in order to regulate her sleep cycles. we structured her naps and bedtime and it worked great. the down syndrome book said that there should be no difference in helping them sleep well, but i was just looking for some real life examples if anyone else attempted it. thanks again!

My daughter with Ds has been an awesome sleeper! So much easier than my typical daughter.

Hi and welcome. My Daniel is 4 months too!! He is a good sleeper too. I would say whatever worked for your daughter and if you had good results then go for it.
My only hesitation would be as long as he is eating enough during the day to sleep all night. As long has he has no feeding issues, I can't imagine that having DS would change anything. Keep us posted.

Welcome to Unomas!!!!!
I haven't heard of sleep training but it makes sense! Russell slept pretty good until he was around 3 yrs old or so.. and he hasn't slept that well ever sense. I have gotten use to it actually LOL! In fact.. he woke up at 4 am this morning and that is why I am on this here comptuer so early! He is now back asleep of course... but not his mommy!
Good luck and post up the results! Would love to hear about it!!! And post up on the general forum too and tell us all about your family!!!

We trianed both the kids from day one. Carter thought it was wonderful and generally went along with it. Nap times on schedule could be difficult at certain times for him, but you have to have the stomach to let them do a little crying it out and they do fine. Sydney, on the other hand, is 2 and just coming around the last few months to being a good routine sleeper. I did nothing differently, but I see where I did sometimes go get her when she fussed rather than letting her sort it out on her own because I didn't want her to wake Carter up. She was the wrold's crappiest sleeper for a l-o-n-g time. Several sleepless nights I was contemplating running away from home LOL!

UPDATE - We've been doing the sleep training for three weeks now and wanted to update everyone on Dave's progress. We put him down around 6-6:30 PM and he cries approximately 10-15 min and then is asleep. He's awake anywhere from 2:30-4:30 AM for a feeding and then back to sleep (with a few minutes of crying) until around 6:00 AM.
The naps are another story. He goes to sleep the same way (crying for 10-15 min), but only stays asleep for 30 min each time. Thanks for all your posts and I'll keep giving updates as things change. ;D
