I love spring break. For those that don't know, I work for the school district as a school nurse. So I am with the students, eagerly anticipating the break, excited, and ready to run out of the school in delight at 3 pm on the last day before break. Of course, being a professional I follow what our principal says, and I don't show a high level of excitement, because I wouldn't want the students/parents to feel like I don't like my job I just wish Laura enjoyed it as much as I do. She is so excited at first, but as the days go on, the lack of a schedule just grates on her. I broke down today and wrote out a quasi-schecule for Wednesday and Thursday, involving grocery shopping, going to the outlet mall, and maybe a movie and/or bowling. She was excited to get it, and what does she do next??? She asks "what are we doing Friday". Oh my goodness, and she didn't like it one bit when I answered "I don't know". And she was thrilled to be reminded that Saturday is Miracle League. And immediately asked if we were going to a restaurant Saturday night, or eating at home. And if we were going to a restaurant, what one. Pulling out my hair here. I understand her need to know what is going on. How do I balance that with my need to have unstructured time? Geez, she is 20 years old and I still haven't figured out that one yet.

I'm a teacher and Sarah and I are on Spring Break, too. She keeps asking about going to school. I keep telling her we are on vacation but she isn't very happy about it. She also thrives on a schedule. She loves knowing where she is going to be and what she is going to eat for lunch. When I tell her no, there is no school today, then she keeps begging for me to take her to church. My husband teaches in a college. Sure wish they had their Spring Break this week instead of in March. Oh well! I am like you and crave some unstructured time. Of course, my time is extremely structured at school so when I have some time off, I want to do whatever whenever the mood hits. Enjoy the rest of your vacation! Chris
