Kevin and I were in the kitchen this evening. It was later on in the evening. Russell came in and looked like he wanted something... but sat down on the floor and just sat there. I have learned that when he wants a snack, which means a Nutrigrain bar, he will pull my hand and take me to it, for drinks, he is not so consistant. He is learning to take me to the fridge or show me a cup(he doesn't do this often though), but he tends to just plop on the kitchen floor for a drink for the most part.
So.. after this AM's events and my little man showing me JUST how smart he is , I decided he needed to work a bit more with communication for me to just "do for him". So, I ask Russell... "What would you like? Would you like a DRINK or BAR?" He just sits there. So.. I wait and again say.. "Russell... DRINK OR BAR?". He still sits there but I know he is listening to me. So again... "Russell, DRINK OR BAR?" (I say the words slowly to him too so he can try to identify what I am saying and process it.)
He then gets up and takes me hand to the fridge (Ah, a drink I see...heehee). I open the fridge and say.. "Oh, you want a drink.. you want MILK?" I sign milk and he tries too and then tries to get the milk out of the fridge. (which is cute because it's so heavy, it was on the full side). So.. I pour him a glass and give him his milk. And.. he takes a drink and then sets it down on the counter.
Then, as quick as he set the milk down he comes back over to me and takes my hand and takes me to where we keep the Nutrigrain bars. So.. he gets to have one of those too!
I thought this was great.... he has been able for sometime to take us to where the bars are. I mean, the boy LIVES off the darn things... but he seemed to listen and think and understand what I said and wanted MILK first and then a BAR...
Kevin and I were so happy. And we told him now that he showed us JUST how smart he IS this AM, we weren't going to just figure it out for him and give him things just because we normally do... Kevin told Russell it was time to "KICK IT UP A NOTCH!" LMAO!!!!
So... the boy is "on" today!
