I'm just wondering because the past few weeks Joy has been showing telltale signs of diabetes...excessive thirst, excessive urination, unusual behavior, sleeplessness. Now she has a raging yeast infection, which I just read is another symptom. She's going in tomorrow to be tested, and I'm really worried about managing this if she does have it. I know I'm putting my horse before my cart here by worrying so much, but that's the mommy's job. I would appreciate comments from any of you who have experienced this.

No, thank goodness. That's one thing Charlie hasn't presented us with yet, and hope he doesn't. But I do have a couple of pretty good internet friends whose kids do have juvenile diabetes as one of the less common complications to having Ds. You're correct that excessive thirst and excessive urination can be symptoms. Didn't know about yeast infection, but then my friends' kids are boys. I think it's a very good idea to check this out and get Joy tested. I hope it turns out to be some silly, weak little bug that'll easily be knocked off by a round of antibiotics. But if it turns out that Joy is developing diabetes, just let me know if you'd like an internet intro to my internet friends--one has years of experience with her 18 yo son and the other just went through the experience of adding the diabetes dx for her 6 yo son. Best regards and good luck to Joy, Bob

Nope havent had to deal with it, But My Mom has it
Ashlie does get tested for it once a year as she goes in every 6 months to her Endo for her Thyroid Test and he tests her for Diabetes at the same time since our kids can get it at anytime.
I will keep Joy in my prayers and please let us know how everything goes

My son does not, but a very good friend of mine 6yr. old little guy w/ ds does. He was dx. when he was 2 I believe. I hope and pray for your little one that she will not have it, but if the test come back that she does please contact me and I can give you my friends e-mail. I know she is looking for someone who is going through the same issues. Just last year they under went an out patient surgery putting an insulin pump in him and that has made their life much easier. Keeping you in our prayers, Monica

I too, have a friend with a son with Ds and diabetes. He is a little fella, exactly two days older than my Patrick. They will both be 5 in April. He is in Patrick's class at school. I as sure his mom would be happy to talk to you as well, if you get that diagnosis. Good luck to you guys and keep us informed.

Jennifer, did she have the test, yet ? You were very perceptive to see the signs in a baby that young ! Yeast infections are a definite sign....due to the excessive urination...baby boys can develop them as well. My 6 year old (non DS child) has Diabetes. It is a tough thing to manage & it would be difficult on ANY baby. He was diagnosed when he was 5. MY FIL has Type 1 (Juvineile) as well.... so we knew it was possible taht one of the grandkids could develop it. Luckily I knew the signs & his was caught very early, but it is a stressful daily change. There is so much support & services out there....sites.....local groups. I'd lvoe to know how you all made out with the test ! Good Luck ! Allisa
