CBean, Happy to hear that Emily has been cleared by cardio!!! ;D ;D ;D I know it was a huge relief for me when I was told that Alison didn't need to go back to that doc. About the laryngomalacia, a friend of mine has 8 month old twins who both have the condition. When they were "little" their breathing was very noisy, but when I saw them at Christmas it was amazing how much they had improved simply because they had grown! I know that their docs have said that they should outgrow it sometime before they turn 3 but they do keep an extra close eye on the girls. Not sure what the plan of action would be if they don't actually outgrow this, so I'm not much use there. Give Emily a great big hug and kiss from me! I SOOO wish I could get ahold of her, she is just too cute with those cheeks of hers!!! Barb

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! WOW wonderful news!!!!! (((HUGS))))) to ou and Miss Emily....HEY I have a question for you.... How did they come to the conclusion Miss Em has laryngomalacia(sp) The reason I ask this of you is because Olivia had and outgrew tracheobronchomalacia. Another airway disorder.I am sending you a link to share with you or your doctor if Emily becomes symptomatic. Olivia had no heart defects at birth either.About 1 month after she was born I noticed she was breathing reall loudly.ESPECIALLY after she drank her bottle. Well it worsened and she was starting to sound really loud ALL the time. After seeing the ped numerous times and getting antibiotics which didn't help I insisted they go further.(well actuall her therapist did). She had tests done swallow study while she was hospitalized at 7 and 1/2 months(for aspiration pneumonia) .An astute doc saw something VERY subtle that NO ONE else saw so he ordered an MRI. Sure enough the found a vascular ring which was causing the malacia.2 weeks later it was repaired and by the time Liv was up and walking for a couple of months it was GONE(23 months). Here's some smptoms to watch out for. NOISY BREATHING sleeping in weird positions..Liv usta sleep with her head on her knees. Kinda like if you were sitting up with your legs straqight out in front of you and you laid your face on your legs. ou'll see how flexible your Emily is that's a ds trait not sleeping like that though. after the fact Livs ped said that if a child has an airway obstruction they will sleep like that or in another weird position (head arched WAAAAY back. Just watch out for these things and if you notice the loud breathing talk to your ped about the possibility of an airwa obstruction(livs obstruction was a vascular ring where her subclavian was wrapped soooo tightly around her esophogus) HUGS HUGS HUGS and enjoy Miss Em. Glad to hear all is well STEFF www.hawaii.edu/medicine/pediatrics/pedtext/s07c07.html

Thanks again to all for your kind responses and for the links and useful information. The possibility of laryngomalacia is purely a speculation, not a diagnosis. I don't believe anything major is wrong, but something is going on. Newborns tend to let out high pitch sounds or sound like they're having difficulting breathing when feeding or settling down or waking from their sleep. Emily tends to do it a little more than average. Placing her on her side when putting her down to sleep has definately cut down the noise. Her next visit with her pediatrician is the 27th, so I'll get into it in more detail then. Only discussed this over the phone and was told it "sounds like..." and "should grow out of it." Meanwhile, she's sleeping through the night, eating like a "messy" champ and is not a "petite" little flower by any means. Cheeks have not deflated. Strong little miss, with what I believe to be a little attitude developing here. Swear she's smiling at me but I know, it's just gas! LOL! But it really seems like there's a lot behind those baby blues of hers.
Oh, Bob, I don't think we'll be handing out Miss Emily's phone number anytime soon. Looks like she's going to be quite the little Daddy's girl. I'm sure he's going to be way too overprotective!!! LOL!!!
Hugs to all!!!

Congratulations on the PDA closing!!! Does this mean no heart surgery? Emily sounds like she's quite a little trooper, and an angel to boot! Sorry that I can't provide any help on laryngomalagia.
