I can't help it. You guys have seen me through the bad times, so I feel compelled to share the good. I feel guilty I feel so good. ;D Emily had her follow up with the pediatric cardiologist today. Last time we saw her was the day after Emily was born. The doctor looked at her heart from different angles, then turned off the machine and said "This is where the good news is actually the bad news. You don't have to see me anymore." Emily's PDA closed up! Tears of joy forming once again in these eyes. She just doesn't stop amazing me! Natalie Merchant's song filling my head again!!! I know how blessed I am!!! Now a question for all you amazing people out there in UnoLand: who here has heard of laryngomalagia? Don't be shy people! Pipe in if you're familiar with it! I can't find a thing on the web! I pretty much know what it is, but was hoping to find a decent explanation. Our little precious wonder has been staying up for very long increments of time these days. Will definately have to turn that time into photo sessions. I gotta get some pics on the album!! She also slept through the night 3 nights in a row. Listen to me! I've turned into an obnoxious, proud, boastful Mom! Can't help it, she's just so perfect! I am so in love. OK, gonna stop now before I make you all sick! Love to all!

My son Kyle has it. He is 2 years old. The Ent told us his Dr thought he had trachae malisia. (wrong spelling). So glad Emily doesnt have to see the Cardologist any more. Kyle holes closed up this year on their own so we dont have the cardologist anymore either. vicki

Oh C-bean brag away!!!!
Your post took me back 13 years to our cardiologist's appt.. He finished the echo and said that our son's heart was fine. It was December 9th. I had already announced that I wasn't in the mood to decorate for Christmas and my husband should just put up a tree.
We left the Drs. office, went home and pulled out every decoration we owned. I had been holding back on loving this kid completely because I was afraid I was going to lose him.
Your posts are wonderful and I hope many mothers-to-be out there are reading!
God bless your family.

Hi Cbean. Congrats on Emily! I don't post too often but check in every now and then. I just wanted to jump in about the laryngomalacia. My son had that. At 5 months of age he had to get trached because of it as well as a couple of other airway obstructions. With the laryngomalacia his vocal chords were extremely swollen, so much so that they were literally touching each other and air could not get through. He had a bronch this past Sep. (at 19 months old) and it has resolved. We have pictures from all of his bronchs and you can tell the swelling gradually decreased. We still have a couple of more issues with his airway, but at least one thing is better!! Hope this helps some. Congrats again!!

Cbean, please forgive me for giving you incorrect info. I just reread my post and realized I was thinking of something different. Laryngomalacia is not the vocal chords, but the epiglottis. I told you my son had a lot of stuff going on in his airway...and this is only 2 out of 4 of them. His vocal chord swelling has reduced and come to think of it I don't even remember if the doc said anything about his epiglottis at his last bronch. I know Noah's in the past has been very floppy. He had a swallow study done a few months ago and was having a lot of trouble swallowing because he has a hard time working those musclese back there behing his tongue. He has always been tube fed because of other medical issues (long and in depth....) but now that I think about it he's been swallowing like a champ here recently. I know the speech therapist said that it should improve over time as he gets stronger and works those muscles more by swallowing, blowing a horn or bubbles and exercises like that. I'll have to be sure to ask out ENT about this at his spring bronch. Thanks for bring it up.

My little man, Justin has laryngomalacia and mild tracheomalacia. He has an inability to swallow and has always been tube fed. He also has airwayproblems related to some of this which causes hypopnia episodes at night, thus still the need for O2 when he sleeps. They don't know if it will improve with time or not.
Glad to hear the PDA is closed!!! Yeah!!! Isn't good news so awesome...it just gives you overwhelming peace after hearing so many possible problems. And, BTW....keep bragging and boasting. I love to hear good news, whether it is about my kids or anyone else's....it just does the heart good!!!
