Well, I've been stressing a little (OK, maybe a lot!) for the last two weeks over the results of my maternal serum integrated test, which is a combination of the quad test and a new marker done in the first trimester. We were supposed to have the results last week, and I kept calling every day....no results!
Today when I called they said they lost the second blood draw, and I'd have to come in and repeat it. The things I was thinking weren't pretty, I'll tell ya that! I was aggravated enough to tell them that before I'd come in to repeat the second blood draw that they'd better call the lab and make sure that at least the FIRST one got there, because it is a two part test! They called to verify and sheepishly admitted that both parts were there, they had just failed to document that they sent it (that'll encourage confidence!).
Twenty minutes later they called with results, and the screenings were all negative. Negative for neural tube defects (like spina bifida), open wall abdominal defects, Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 21. My odds of having another with DS were listed as 1 in 16,000.
I am cautiously optimistic, as the tests are about 86% accurate, but we'll live with the 14% uncertainty I guess. I can't convince myself to do amnio, I'm too worried that it would harm the baby. Our ultrasounds that check the nuchal translucency and nasal bone were also very good, so I can't justify the risk.
Anyway, I think I took my first real deep breath in a week! Thanks to those keeping my in their prayers!

Congratulations on the news. Now, you can just relax and enjoy the looooooonnnggggg hot summer just like I'm going to! I saw in your other post that you were saying you were going to be as big as a house I think it was? WHATEVER LAURA - you don't start out teeny tiny and get to be as big as a house! I will feel no sympathy towards you in this department - trust me! ;D Jessie

That is great news Laura! You know with Reece, all they did was a REALLY good US with us. I walked in on day one saying NO amnio and they said.. OK. I wasn't stressed though about it. Glad you got that all out of your way.. now.. enjoy the pregnancy!

Congratulations, Laura! I've been wondering how you were doing. I always give pregnant women a ton of sympathy since I had horrible pregnancies. Hope you are feeling great.
