There has got to be some place that sells/ gives away used equipment. I'm thinking here of things like pediatric walkers, etc. I know some items are custom made for our kids and couldn't be reused easily, but some things like walkers could be. Can you guess I'm thinking of trying a walker with my dd? She is 32 months and not walking. I know that is okay and she will. We are using an ordinary baby walker as we feel it really helps her work those muscles and get the idea. But we'd like to try something else. I was checking on the internet and saw a really cool Hart Walker. You walk upright with hands free. Only costs $11,000+ (yes that's ELEVEN thousand!) Obviously I'm not going to get something like that. Also, my husband is fairly inventive and may well end up making what we need himeself. He was thinking of a set of parallel bars or something like that as well as a walker of sorts.
But I am thinking there just has GOT to be somewhere for used equipment. I am sure most families would be very willing to donate outgrown or outneeded things. I would be. Anyone know anything? Yours in Christ, Kathy

Kathy every state has an Assistive Technology site that is federally funded. Sometimes they have a "loaner " program as well as new equipment for just this purpose. Shoot they come under some acryonm too which of course I can't remember... but your local rehabilitation agency should be able to give you some pointers. You might start with the ARC of your area or your state to go on the hunt. Also if you go to the web site for Exceptional Parent magazine they have a directory of resources such as this.

Your daughter's insurance would most likely pay for some sort of walker. Her therapists just need to submit the request. I know with my daughter's braces, they're covered 100%. The PT phones the ped & they call the perscription in thru the insurance, she's fitted & that's it. Only difficulty seems to be with length of time till she can be refitted when she outgrows them.
