This afternoon I took Joy to our local mall to ride the carousel and try to find my short-wide some new pants. The pants part didn't go so well...they just don't make 'em short enough.
We got to the carousel and an older gentleman was operating it today. Joy ran up to him and hugged his leg, which made him beam from ear to ear. After we peeled her off of him, he looked at her, got tears in his eyes, and then told me to put my money away. I tried to argue, but he barked at me.
To make a long story short, he smiled and waved at Joy every time we came around, and he kept her on for a free second ride. He offered us a third, but by that time I was getting pretty motion sick so I had to decline.
As we were leaving, he said, "Any time you come to ride during my shift, she rides for free. Got it?" I was overwhelmed. I don't know if he has someone in his life with DS which has given him a tender heart for others with it, or maybe it was just the hug.
I'll feel weird getting free carousel rides since we go every week, but maybe one of these days I'll get a chance to talk to him and find out what his story is.
Just thought I would share. Have a great week!
Jenifer, mom to Joy ;D

Maybe I'm just hormonal and weepy, but your post made me cry. I am always so touched when people do nice things out of the goodness of their heart. Thanks for sharing.
