My two oldest children are in 4-H (kinda like the boy/girl scouts or other service learning type organziations). They are required to a demonstration speech, the purpose behind which is to get children comfortable speaking in front of groups, organize thoughts, etc...anywho
My 8 year old daughter decided to demonstrate some of the sign language she has learned. She also wanted her little brother to sit up front with her. We practiced at home, and she was feeling good.
Tonight was the night. She was nervous, but they both did awesome. JT signed just about every sign that Gracie was showing, he had to stop and wave and throw kisses, so he couldn't do them ALL. He was a bit confused why they both signed "ice cream" and no one brought any out. He even threw in a "please" on his own, still no ice cream appeared. (He did get ice cream when he got home)
After the demonstration the audience is allowed to ask questions. Someone asked my daughter if JT was deaf. All on her own, she said "no he's not deaf, it's just that he has Down Syndrome and his tongue muscle isn't as strong as ours yet, so it's easier for him to sign, so we're all learning it." A truly proud Mom moment.

That's awesome! What a great job she did!! And what a wonderful learning experience for all the kids (and adults?) in the audience!!! Sounds like JT charmed them all! Thanks so much for sharing!
