OMG CINDY girl its you ;D
Nice to come to UNO and see you posting
K, not sure i can explain easily but will try, Christopher's main and very big delay is his speech This has been my fight basically every year, especially as he gets older, they fight me more on this Anywho, Christopher now goes to an out of district school just for kids with "exceptional needs" at our requrest and really has been doing very well there Our home district is still very involved unfortuantely, but thats how it goes when you go out of district. K, an Augmentative Communication Devise was purchased for him by the district. Now we have in his IEP. "TOTAL COMMUNICATION" will be provided and taught to Chris. That consists of verbal first, sign, cueing and Augmenative. The one problem is for some reason my district thought nothing of spending a GREAT amount on this devise BUT refuses to spend what it takes to teach Chris how to functiionally use it Sooooo what good is it ? I have put my foot down on this as Chris is getting older and although his speech is coming along some, its still very delayed and I do believe this will hold him back as he gets to the age of working KWIM He is soooo very capable in many areas but his kind of speech delay makes people think he is not capable When in fact he is very much capable, KWIM?? Anywho the distiict came right out at the IEP Meeting and said, this will be a hard sell to the Board of Ed and they will not spend the money. Hmmmm K, not for nothing BUT that is against the law. A district cannot refuse a service that is needed and actually agreed is needed by all at the IEP, due to money. They just can't and honestly I was shocked that she said that and I called her on it Then she tried to say well K, lets get rid of some of his speech therapies and the Board may then consider this training Sorry here BUT WTF? Thsee are two different issues and they very well know it is and a district does not have the right to, OK we might do this if you get rid of that. The kid has severe issues in certain areas and they very well have to deal it's the "I" in the IEP. They know it, I know it, but they think that, well really gamble, I will back off. You think they would have leanred the fist time I went thru a fight with then and BTW WON for my boy ;D This here Momma will not back off, the laws are there for a reason but I find, least here, its a game to see who will hold out the longest. Noooo kidding girl last issue I had with my district for an FM system they knew I would win BUT OMG they fought it to the last hour and then HONESTLY the day of the Court Date called and said to me OK you will get it. My district is FAMOUS for this game as many parents for their own reasons just give up along the way, as it can be very timely and costly to fight them. BUT when it comes to my little character and what I know he needs to make his life better and productive, Hmmm lets just say they are playing the game with the wrong person
The sad sad part girl is that I know I will win, I have done my homework on this BUT in the end the one that pays is Chris cause of the time wasted with all this BS
Hope this made some sense to you girl, i think I am rambling as I am getting mad all over again, thinking of what my district is doing
Honestly girl, just talking bout us here K, if I go along with what they offer we ALL get along just fine BUT go for what is right and what they don't want Hmmmmm lets just say then the truth comes out Special Ed kids are $ signs to districts sorry but how I feel
Really, can anyone here tell me why a district would spend over $3,000.00 on a devise that ALL think Chris is capable and would benefit him in life and then only use it for a dust collector
Sorry Cindy BET by now you are sorry you asked me right LOL
