I didn't know you could not respond on the "who's who" board. I was told to pop in here and introduce myself. Well, here goes.... My name is Trisha. My ever so wonderful husband is named Jeff. We have 4 children. Brandon(13) Nicholas(12) Marissa(5) and Andrew(1DS). We live in Massachusetts. I have been reading some of your posts on here and have to say you all seem very well informed on Down Syndrome. Although Andrew just turned 1, he has had no major medical issues. So please don't think I am ignorant if I ask a question (or two or three) that you all probably have been over before. Most of my info on DS has come from searching online, and boy oh boy have I gotten some misinformation in the past! lol Well there you have it!! I am now off to read more of your posts and hopefully learn something new. I hope to meet some of you wonderful people soon!! Thanks!

Trisha,
Ask away. I'm somewhat new here too and I'm sure many of us "new" moms will learn a thing or two from your questions. If you don't ask, you won't know.
I just had to ask what most of the abbreviations mean. Let us know when you get there or look them up in the just recent posts.
Welcome!
Valerie C

Welcome!!! From one Tricia to another! I'm in SC and found unomas 5 years ago when my little one was 5 weeks old. You will get an education here in Ds that is unequaled anywhere and the best thing is...you won't even know that its happening. One day you'll just be talking to people (including doctors and teachers) in your area or at a Ds conference and you'll realize that you know as much or more than they do. And because unomasers talk about EVERYTHING....you will be well rounded. You'll have a liberal arts in Ds. LOL Actually, I often tell people that I received a masters degree in Ds from unomas. Okay...maybe only a slight exaggeration! So jump in and ask anything....like Susan says....if we don't know.... Oh and don't worry about repeats.....it just gives those of us that didn't know the first time the chance to show off that we have learned a little bit along the way.

Hello from MA, also!
We're in Webster. If you don't mind me asking, where are you? Our daughter Jenna will be 3 in July and is just a blessing. She is so easy-going and bright!! She did have medical issues and required a major open heart surgery around her 1st birthday for Tetrology of Fallot and a Complete AV Canal (double whammy) and did VERY well and has just progressed w/ leaps and bounds. Her surgeon and cardiologist are quite pleased w/ her results and seem to think she won't require any more surgeries (knock on wood!!!). She was born in GA and we just moved here in February. She started EI in GA at 2 months of age and is receiving it through the Kennedy-Donavan Center in Southbridge. She will hopefully be going to their new preschool this fall, too. She is walking very well and signs many words along with some verbal skills. She gets her point across somehow, believe me!! This website is the 1st one we found back in 2002 and it has been a blessing although I've only really started posting in the last month or so. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or I'm sure anyone else here. We're all just one big, happy family here.

Hi, I'm Valerie, and we have a Nicholas, also (2 yrs, DS) and Derek, 16. I just stumbled across this site in Feb, and it has just been wonderful! Wish I would have found it sooner, as Nicholas had his open heart surgery in Jan, and it would have been GREAT to have the expertise of those who have "been there, done that." For some reason, hearing stuff from other parents is a lot more reassuring than hearing it from a Dr. I guess because the other parents on this site have that same emotional bond, and aren't just looking at it from a medical standpoint!
Anyway, I've learned a lot in just the 3 mos I've been on here. It's a great site full of wonderful people. You're gonna love it!

Welcome to Uno Mas the best site on the net. At least I think so. Every one here is very compassionate and understanding and full of knowledge. Never feel silly about asking a question either. I remember some of my posting we're pretty silly too, but then who cares I did get some good response. And what may seem silly to some people may very important to you and that is how we look at things here. So go ahead and ask all you want.We also have lots of fun here. Some nights I read some of the postings and laugh my head off. ;D ;D My name is Claire and my wonderful husband is David. We also have 4 children, Ron 28, Francois 23, Savannah 9 and Adam 7(DS). We are from Northern, Ontario, Canada where we have Polar Bears. ;D Just joking, but it does get quite cold here. Hope to hear more about you and your family. Claire
