HIYA thanks for the responses... Jackie I so agree with the I wish I woulda known but now I do so will pass on the importance of teaching kids with ds and NOT to start a healthy lifestyle from birth. What better way of empowering our kids than with knowledge to make their own choices later in life. I have avoided the word diabetic for some time. But yea you guys are right about that I was TRYING to erase it from my memory bank.LOL.God would I love to see Olivia thin like she was about 2-3. She looked awesome and could move around like crazy. The fear of heights started when she gained massive weight. I think her balance is off with her high weight and now she feels unstable climbing. She did start to climb at school much higher and got HUGE HUGE rounds of applause from everyone when she was on the apparatus at recess.I wanna see her climb to the top and run around like she used to.She does however in this short time know the difference between healthy foods and not healthy foods. I let her pick from her food groups every day. She likes that and could probably at this time teach a few kids of 2 a lesson. This summer I am hoping for a huge weight loss and lifestyle and activity change. For as big as she is now and as coordinated(the child is the best jump shot in basketball believe it or not she is amazing) as she is I can imagine the possibilities for her and want her to be light free and a kid who is not boggled down by her weight. Metformin or no metformin. Thanks HUGS Steff

Good Luck STEFF you know what I have been going thru with Emily and the wt loss...you are right ...best to nip it in the bud NOW....you know...Diabetes is not the awful disease we used to think it was...Type 2 that is...and it can be easily controlled if caught early by most people with diet. meds, and exercise. There is absolutely NO difference in my life...other than feeling better than I have in years ...other than the fact I take two pills twice a day....and eat healthy. But I CAN tell you if you ignore it...you will be on the other end of those late nite phone calls Ed gets soooo many of these days....LOL...... As to vitamins....Ed has said yes if I want to I can take a multiple vitamin...but his general opinion of vitamins for most people is that they just create expensive tee tee....LOL.....I guess I buy into all these senior ads on tv...with Grandparents skipping across the lawns and using hula hoops after taking just one tiny vitamin a day.... LMAO...JACKIE!!!!! you are cracking me up. Now ? for ya... So this basically means that Liv is diabetic. See the only problem the endo had with that was her hemogl IC? SP? was not too high on the high end of the scale but not the highest or over the top. Just curious what that means...GLAD GLAD GLAD to know you aren't feeling side effects just better.Thats a HUGE sigh of relief for this mom.. Sometimes Jackie LOL your writing leaves me in stitches. well it looks like i gained 1 lb back . i have been eating alittle bit more but i am not worried about it right now. i am jusat going to have to get back for 2 weeks and start the induction of atkins diet. before i do that i am going to wait a week and re weight my self and see if it was just retaining water or something. I go back to my surgerons office to be checked on. i might be going back to work next week or it just might be the begining of june when i go back. i still in some pain. i have not had a paycheck from work yet and i have to call work tommorrow to find out why i have not gotten one. i am glad i have money saved up in my checking account and i have my credit card i can use. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO ALOT OF SITES FOR LOW CARB RECIPES AND SUPPORT GROUPS TOO. i will have to right them down and put on here .. i can copy and paste on here later. sue

It is starting to make me mad...all this bashing of lo carb diets....LOL....nothing in the way of diets works unless you WANT it to work and are willing to use some will power...no magic pills. Now the latest hype is....the wt might not stay off....but...what they keep forgetting to say...it has nothing to do with the diet...just the person...and some people will never have the will power to keep going on anything.
I think for me the value of this diet (which I admit has not been getting long term wt off as quickly as I would like...but still am losing...altho slowly)...is the total committment I have developed in regards to wanting to lost wt...and being able to stick with a plan....and a healthy one at that. We literally NEVER get off it unless we travel and even that is getting easier...we just have one or two splurges..to let off some steam...then resume lo carbing. We are also paying more attention now to fats....and trying to incorporate healthy things into our eating plan...so in essence we must be doing several different diets at the same time...but whatever it ends up...its still very lo carb...and high in veggies...and low in fats....how can you fault this....
I just hope that when Emily moves to Seabrook she will be able to monitor it on her own and not move backwards....but....living in a home with four stories...I guess her exercise will increase dramatically and help her compensate for an occasional lapse....LOL
Jackie.....ps...thanks for the site.....

i hope that i will stay on this way of living (low carb). it really has been easy for me. i do love desserts. i do know what made me heavy- 2x desserts at a time,2x plates of food and hardly no exercise. i am sometimes so low on engery due to the way i used to eat. i cannot function on sugar ,those enriched flours and alot of starches. i have heard alot of people complain that atkins diet is not good for you but i have to disagree with them. i feel really good. i am eating alot of foods that hAVE ALOT OF fat . when i get most of the weight off i will stay low carbing i hope but will have to trim some of the fat of cooking dishes for meals planning. i when i go back to work ,i am going to have to do a menu planner now and decide what i am going to have for dinners and plan ahead. i am haveing hard boiled eggs done ahead for a snack in the refgi and i have bacon on hand for to cook in micro wave. I have lettuce and i sometimes devide up vegs for the portion control and put in snacking zip lock bags so i can grab and go. i am heading out to go to the walking track and just walk around the track . our track i go to is 1 mile. i am trying to get another site up here but i cannot get it on just yet. i will try to post it again. I am so determined to make it and live for my daughter. i want to see her grow up. i just saw on our news station that in ohio some where a woman who is still living is 113 yrs old! i want to be able to llive a long life and see my daughter when she becomes a young woman and what choices she will take in her life. sue

Ok....this was my longest break from dieting...I tried in Vegas and Austin...but it was just too hard...so I tried not to go too far overboard....and after one month not lo carbing...I only have gained 1.5 lbs!!!! now that truly amazes me and I am now back on the wagon. I have discovered that I need a few more carbs (healthy ones) to prod my wt loss along so am trying to stay around the 35 carb level at the moment.
Emily is in Houston and I think she is switching more to WW but their lo carb option. She does say she is eating lots of lean cuisine meals so not quite sure. She definitely is gettng more exercise as this is a very very big home and her bedroom is on the fourth floor!!!!!!
I will keep you posted...and Sue and others keep up your good work.

I just bought Dr. Phil's weight loss book.....nothing else seems to be working for me, and Dr. Phil seems to be "no nonsense", so I'm hopeful!! My only concern is......is it just me, or does Dr. Phil seem a little bit on the chubby side???? If so, maybe I won't follow his advice!! Kidding! Actually, Weight Watchers CAN work very very well......IF i would just follow it! I do well for one day, bad for 2, good for one, etc. So far, that pattern is just helping me STAY overweight! UGH!!
