Update on Kelly's Seizures

I have a slightly different online name because I closed out my old e-mail acct. (changed ISPs), and the old one isn't forwarding my e-mails! I had forgotten my password, so I was stuck.

Anyway, Kelly has had more seizures. She had a couple more grand mals last month, coincidentally (or maybe not) when she had a cold. After another eeg, a consult and an MRI (we have to find out the results from the MRI yet), the neuro. has suggested that Kelly's seizures might be related to sleep apnea. We're going to get a c-pap monitor, and she might spend the night in a sleep clinic in future weeks. She's now on a medicine called Kepra, and it has helped cut down on her seizures, but it hasn't eliminated them. I found out that her small ones are probably called "partial complex" (or "complex partial"?) seizures. She hasn't had any grand mal seizures since she's been on the Kepra, so we're praying the medicine is working. The real test will be when she gets another cold.

News? Well, we saw the neuro. last week. He had looked at her brain scan and said that there was a shadow on it that could be old blood.

The thing is, she's never had a head injury, and although I had a relative who died of a brain aneurism (sp?), it couldn't be a problem with her blood vessels, because they look fine.

What the doctor is thinking is that she might have moved during the procedure (and yes, she did move). The tech. at the time said that he got a couple of bad images.

So -- she gets another brain scan in the fall. He's waiting that long because the Keppra is working well on her. She hasn't had any grand mals in a couple of months. She's had the small seizures (complex partial), but she generally sleeps well now.

So, we'll keep praying for the best. Sorry I haven't checked in until now.

I will pray that the meds will help IF Kelly gets a cold! How scary for you!!! I am glad you have found meds that have helped some.
