Hi everyone.
Ryan hasn't had PT for more than a year now. He has met most of the typical milestones at this point, and the PT recommended to discontinue services, which I was totally fine with.
I just requested an evaluation for APE. Although he is doing pretty good, I think with more help, his coordination could improve - ie catching a ball, kicking a ball, riding a trike, etc.
So, if your child receives APE services, can you tell me what they work on?
Thanks!!

Has Ryan had an PE at all? Or JUST PT in the past.. or both?
Russell has APE but his goals probably aren't what Ryan's would be. They are working on "appropriate play" with the equipment and VERY basic stuff like that. They really aren't working on specific PE things yet. But my little guy has a ways to go.
I love APE though! I love that Russell gets PT but I think it's good that he is out with his intregrated kindy class and doing what those kids are doing. I love it!
Good luck!!!!
A.

HI!!!! Olivias had APE for a half hour a week till 6 then 1 hr a week from 6 on. AND she's had the same ape teacher thru the whole time. She only received pt in group at ei and only one on one for aabout 6 months till she learned to walk. Since 3 yrs its been ape. I am going to go down and look at her iep but I have watched them(they do it in a group of 5 .) They have a blast and she makes games out of it while somehow working on each childs iep goals at the same time. Now I can't find her last 2 ieps right now but can tell you one of her goals I found from last year.... I think it was Olivia will be able to throw a bean bag 12' in the intended direction 5/5 times hitting a 18x36" target 1/5 times. Now they didn't sit there and toss bean bags at things in a boring way. She made fun games so they could reach that goal. She's teaching Olivia to dribble and get over her fear of the apparatus. really we talk and she knows what is most important to me is that Olivia can dribble a ball, jump and throw a basketball in a higher net(I taught her to jusmp and shoot and was IMPRESSED at how quickly she picked it up and really good form just can't throw the basketball to far or high. So the ape teacher works on that. I just want Liv to learn the things kids do on the playground that come naturally for them and are really hard for my girl and the APE teacher is doing an awesome job. Once in a while I go and watch and help cause its so much fun and she explains to me what she's doing and how it relates to the kids iep goals.
