Hey guys and gals!
I have another question for you all ~
How many of those on here have had their adnoids (sp?) removed (speaking of the kidos/people with DS)? Also, at what age?
TIA

Meghan's doc recommended she have her adenoids out w/ her last set of tubes. it was a few weeks before she turned 4 (this past Dec). <br> We declined the adenoid removal...didnt feel she needed it done, a 2nd opinion agreed w/ us...but had we had it done it would have been at age 4. laurie

Russell has never had his adnoids or tonsils removed... KNOCK ON WOOD... And we don't have any health issues that would warrent either removal.
We also have never had tubes put in Russell's ears. KNOCK ON WOOD! We have only had a couple ear infections (not even bad ones) in the past 7 yrs.

My daughter was about 4 when she had hers removed. All went well, and we were glad we chose to go ahead with it.

Ashley is 2yrs old and still has hers. When and why would she need them out? How will I tell if she has a problem? She has only had 1 virus and 1 ear infection. She is a good sleeper at night although she does tend to moan and groan once ina while during her sleep. I am pretty sure she gets a good night sleep.
Please let me know. Thank you Annette

Christopher had his out when he was Hmmmm 4/5 years old I believe. Sad thing for us the ENT we were seeing then, said "Ohhh they must come out", so we did that and when the Doc came out of surgery to see us, he says to me, "Well they weren't as big as I thought, so you will see no difference Needless to say we found a new ENT after that. Chris had his tonsils out just 2 years ago. CC ~

Josiah was 9 months. He had tonsils and adnoids taken out due to sleep apnea. He would stop breathing 9 times an hour and his oxygen level would be low while asleep. He also had tubes put in his ear.

Cassie had tonsils out (and ear tubes in) when she was just over 3 years old. She never had a sleep study because the doctors at the Ds Clinic said they (tonsils) were big enough to come out w/o a sleep study beforehand. Her adenoids were suppose to be removed too. But, after the surgery, the ENT told me that the adenoids were not enlarged and hadn't needed to come out.
Annette, Cassie's tonsils were taken out because of snoring and poor sleep. She would sit up frequently in her sleep and was always tossing and turning. The ENT assumed that the adenoids were enlarged also, but they weren't. I think removing the adenoids would have helped with the constant sinus drainage.

Ricki had hers out along with tonsil removal and ear tubes at age 7. We were sure to get a very good surgeon who would not take out more than needed (too much removal can cause a nasal voice) but the difference in her sleep apnea, behavior due to poor sleep, was instantly apparent!!! Be sure that if you do this procedure, that you are admitted to the hospital for OVERNIGHT as the post- bleeding danger has been seen more in kids with DS as compared to the "normal" population. We had a rare complication from the ear tubes (which she DID need, and I am not saying not to do) in that after they fell out her eardrum on one side stayed punctured and we have to wait TWO more years before it can be repaired, and in the meantime she doesn't hear well in that ear. (Have you ever heard kiddie tapes for 20 times at FULL volume?
