Hi all in Unomas-land!
Has anyone started their preschooler (Zane will be 3 soon) in a combination program where he/she attends special ed preschool for half a day and then a typical preschool program the other half? If so, how did you justify the need for BOTH on an IEP? Thanks for any adivce!!

Hey - I don't have meghan in a situation like that but many of her classmates are in a regular preschool (in the AM) and go onto the special ed preschool in the PM. However, the moms (& dads) pay for the regular preschool themselves...the school districts will not pay for that here. The children get all of their services in the special ed preschool and have regular preschool with no services. From what I've heard from the moms the kids are doing really great in the 1/2 day, 1/2 day mix -- and I have to say these kids are the ones who speak the best. It could be coincidence, or maybe not. even though I don't have first hand experience just thought I'd pass along what my friends have done and seen. laurie

Danielle, When Collin turned 3 he was already in a regular preschool setting... a 2 yr old program and he went 1 day a week for 2.5 hrs. This year he was put in a true 3 year old program (since his b-day is in February and this is were he is suppose to be) He is in a 50/50 program 2 days a week he goes to our church preschool (regular ed) and 2 days a week he goes to a special ed class through the school system. Next year (this coming fall) it all changes and I had to make some of the tough decesions yet about Collin's education. I chose to put Collin in a full time special ed setting. Because while Collin is doing great the special ed classes had smaller teacher/student ratios and more aids in the class and this is what I think he needs now. Our school system will pay for a regular ed preschool and also provide service to them while they are at school if we choose. Connie
