Hi everyone...... Wondering if any of you wonderful people out there have any experience with the following. Alex's T4 levels have been very high for the past 3 visits to the endocrinologist. His other levels have been fine so he isn't on medicine because he doesn't look like he is truly Hyperthyroidism. Well they had me tested & Alex retested to see if something was going on with me that could be hereditary & well it turns out we both have Hashimoto's Thyroditis (& I have a nodule so I have to have a biopsy) Well his T4 level was high again so they want him to have an "uptake & scan done". Have any of your kiddos had that done? It sounds like it isn't real painful except for the shot but the thought of him being injected with a radioactive substance freaks me out!
Does anyone have any insight into this procedure? We don't have it scheduled yet because I am waiting for the orders to be sent in the mail so Alex's primary care doc can do a referral (the joys of an HMO) for the procedure. I'm just a little worried about this whole thing. Any advice??
Thanks! Sue

I dont have any Advice, But Ashlie does have Hashimoto's Disease, However I have never been tested but wondering if anyone in my family truly does have thyroid probs.
Ashlie has been on Levoxyl for a couple years now and thankfully it has controlled her thyroid levels.
Keep us posted!

Hey this is our thing! Maggie has the exact same readings and it freaked everyone out at first.
But, we got this great doc at UVA...William Clarke...who is like Mr. Rogers! And he said as long as she wasn't showing any signs of hyperthyroidism and her levels stayed within a certain range, not to worry. So we have it checked twice a year and it's always "abnormal" but never enough to worry about.
If it were me, I'd wait on the tests until someone can give you a darn good reason to do it. What's the worst case scenerio if you don't? (I don't know the answer to that one!) But what we've been told is..."if it ain't broke BAD, don't fix it!"
Good luck!
