Ok, Russell is 6 but acts like a infant/toddler and looks like a toddler too! He is around 39 pounds and 37 inches. He is tiny. Problem is his bladder is still SO imature and potty training is YEARS from now due to the lack of communication and talking and understanding. So... where DO you go after size 6 diapers? We recently moved him up to a size 6 just because he potties SOOO much, he soaks to his clothes lots! I was noticing some brands don't even go to size 6 even. Some parents have suggested pull-ups but that isn't an option yet. We have put them on him, out of needing a diaper, and he pees AROUND the diaper and they don't soak up much. They are made more for those that don't pee much in my opinion.. those in training. So.. what next??? A.

If Pull Ups don't work then I guess Huggies Good Nights wouldnt be an option either? I know they come in L & XL sizes (XL is for 85 lbs and up). Other than that, I would contact a surgical supply store...at my drugstore we used to supply diapers in larger sizes (not adult) for one of the local group homes...I tried to look on-line but couldnt find the company we used (don't recall the name). But anyways, a surgical supply store should have some ideas for you. Hope this helps some. laurie

A. we are approaching the same situation here, although I have found that for us the pampers size 6 is bigger than the huggies size 6 now to just get the ins. company to pay for the Pampers

My son Matthew is almost 7 60lbs+ and we are working on the potty training. He actually has outgrown the Pull ups so now we are on the Goodnites. I use the Goodnites at night and if we go our somewhere and for school but at home I use regular underwear with an adult male incontentice pad. I usually have to change the pad every 4 hours but it is a lot cheaper than using only Goodnights. I think it cuts down on diaper rash also. I can totally relate to having an older child that's not potty trained, it's not fun especially if your out when the changing needs to be done. I know some states have programs to help with the diapering cost and some insurance companies also may help. Unfortunately I don't get any $$ assistance.
I did do a search one time on cloth diapers but they were expensive and I didn't want to deal with the mess of the cloth.
I'm hoping to get my guy at least "poop" trained in the next year. He actually went for a whole week of signing and going on the potty but then stopped. So frustrating. Everytime I change him it's in the bathroom and I sign and say "potty" and put him on the toilet.

I use Goodnights with Derek and he is in a size M. He is 40 lbs and about 107 cm. They are expensive but thankfully I get funding to cover them. If you can catch Derek in time he will poop on the potty but there is no hope of him peeing on it yet. The smallest size of Tena briefs are way too big for Derek yet also.

:DA, A friend of mine has a son (non DS) who is 6 and weighs 50 pounds..She went to a brand called Good Nights..I am not sure who makes them..My nephew who has epilepsy (sp?) was also in those..Because of the amount of fluid he drank from the meds. he wet often..I know they make them for older kids but might be worth a try...Kourtney is 5 and we are still working on the potty issue with her as well..Sometimes she says potty and sometimes she doesn't. But, she wears Pull-ups..Good Luck to ya. Michele

Are Goodnights a pullup??? I have seen the package of them at the store before and thought they were. I would have to see them and try. I just don't know. Russell pees LOTS. And for some reason, the pull ups are a bit, um, narrow in crotch area LOL, that he tends to pee AROUND the diaper.
We don't get assistance either for diapers. I have looked and looked. If the Regional Center had any $$$ I could use that towards diapers. I came in too late to the list last fiscal year. We just got a letter saying they were ready to allocate again... lets hope we get some aide.
**sigh**

Goodnites and Pull ups are the same, the Goodnites just come in bigger sizes. I have that problem with them being narrow in the crotch area also, Matthew can end up with a wedgie. Kimberly Clark, the manufacture, also had gotten the great idea of maikng them "less bulky" which just means less absorbent. If you live where there are Kroger stores, their store brand is the same(made by kimberly clark) but less expensive.
The incontience pads may work if you want to try that. I have found that Eckerds brand(52 for $11) work well. They are long and flatter than some of the other pads that I have tried.
Thier is post that I started a while make on the medical board about diapers, you might want to check that out.

it would probably be a pain in the neck but i saw in the store something called "Diaper Doublers"...it's a cloth thing...like the incontinence inserts, or a maxi pad - but washable/reusable. they also make disposable ones i think but they're $$. laurie

Adam 6 is over 50pds and is completely trained during the day, but at night I use Good Nights. I find they fit better then Huggies and Pu-Ups

Well, you all have given me some good info to go on. Since we aren't quit there YET, but will be sooner or later, I need to know what to do next. I will also talk to our Ped in the summer to see if he has any suggestions too.
Thanks gals!

Ashlie is 7 and is a lil over 50 pounds and we use Good Nights pull ups on her still, ( I have her having her BM at night so I havent gotten her night trained yet) I really need to I know ( Bad Mommy) But the Good Nights hold a lot so its hard for them to pee through, But since Ashlie is a girl I dont have the narrow crotch problem so if those dont work, I am not for sure what I would use
