Sarah had another MSU done on Monday and we got the results today - she still has an infection and now has an appointment with her Ped on Tuesday. I have the lab results to bring with me. They mean nothing to me and just wondering if any of you knowledgeable unomasers can interpret for me? Her is the latest MSU result: WCC/cmm >2000 RCC/cmm 0 Casts Nil Bacteria ++ Epith. cells Occasional Other Nil Colony Count >10^5 orgs/ml Organism: E.coli Anyone? Only bit I understand is e.coli Stella

I think those numbers are a bit diffierent than the ones used in the US....but I'll take a guess the keys to look at are the WBC (white blood cell) count.....this is usually elevated when there is an infection. Bacteria ++ , I am assuming means the levels are elevated & the colony count, organism (E. coli) is the type of bacteria.....this is important to know which antibiotic to use. Those are the only I am pretty sure about, do you have a key with that result?? A lot of times they'll list the normal ranges. Hope this helps! Hope Sarah feels better soon, kidney infections can be stubborn. They probably prescribed the wrong type of antibiotic, once they get the right one down, it should resolve. Hope she feels better soon!

Thanks Annie. No there isn't a key with them - these are the lab reports sent to my doctor and she gave them to me to bring to the hospital on Tuesday. This is the third urinalysis Sarah has had done - the first one (05/13) showed RCC/cmm (red blood cells i presume) of 126, everything else NIL and with the same colony count and organism which was sensitive to augmentin which Sarah was put on. Second (05/31) showed WCC of 15, Bacteria +++, the rest NIl, with the same colony count and organism, this time resistant to augmentin (among others) but sensitive to nitrofurantoin so she had a ten day course of that. The third (06/21) is the one you have seen and it is sensitive to all the appropriate anti-bs and she has been put on trimethoprim.
Thanks again.
