Hi - I was talking to a mom I know this weekend, and her daughter has a specialized type of speech therapy called "prompting" (I think?) We were at the aquarium and it was very loud so I couldn't hear her terribly well but I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about it, what it entails, what it's purpose is, where one finds such a therapist? Or any good websites, etc. thanks in advance. laurie

I'm not sure LAURIE, Hmmmm I know Chris gets "cueing" in Speech, Hmmm wonder if thats kind of the same the "cueing" are hand signals that remind Chris to use the right sound for a word. I will search around on the "prompting" I am very curious if its the same as the cueing or not.

it's something like shaping the mouth to form different sounds. i guess to show the child the proper positions for mouth movement, positioning and shaping, so it's not the same as cueing (which i originally thought it was) i'm going to see if i can find the mom's # and see if I can find out more...apparently it's specialized and the therapist has to be trained. if i find anything else, i'll post up. laurie

CC - thanks for the website...that sounds something like she described, plus it sounds a little like ABA (applied behavioral whatchamacalllit) which I know this mom is big into and I read somewhere else about prompting and ABA. I think it's used more w/ kids with autism, although this website sounds like it deals more w/ apraxia. If I find out anything else, I let you know...thanks for the website, again laurie
