HI.... Here is our experience... Brace has very flat feet too.. He has been examined by 2 different ped ortho's and here is what I was told. Most kids with DS have flat feet, due to the low tone. Most do have an arch, it is just hard to see because the tone is what gives the flat appearance. Brace was given inserts when he was just beginning to walk(about 2 3/4) they were called "patty bobs", he then graduated to an insert called a "hot dog". AFO's(actual bracing with a support underneath the foot up around the ankle or calf) were also considered, but it was determined Brace didn't need these.... Here are some links that talk about flat feet in kids with DS... www.ccmckids.com/departments/Orthopaedics/orthoed17.htmwww.ds-health.com/ortho.htm Hope this helps......Kim

You have run MY chimes....Emilys feet are her worst body part....LOL. First of all they are short and square...second of all she has one...just one...that is totally flat. Nothing fits her ...especially nothing stylish....and her feet hurt a lot because of it. No one in their 20s wants to wear tennis shoes all the time which is what her orthopod and podiatrist both suggested....Since her foot is wide... it's very hard to find her shoes anywhere except Payless and most of those shoes are inexpensive and not well made or good for her feet. We do ok in summer when she can wear dressy sandals and thongs for dressing up...and tennies and some Clark fairly stylish shoes work for casual year round...but winter dress shoes are a mega disaster.

When my PT was checking Carter's feet for something she saw mine and went OMG!! You have the flattest foot I ever saw! I never knew it was a problem until then. Like someone once told me light hair is more common in our kiddos - give it up already.
