I help my mother with her garden (I had a garden of my own until I had children) and we have planted pumpkins for the last few years.

Okay, we bought a pumpkin plant at a local greenhouse yesterday. It was an impulse purchase, and I need to get it planted today. So, Becky and Donnita, what does it need? I have a site that gets good sunlight, and there's lots of space. They are called Atlantic Giants, and I'm given to understand they will get quite large. Pointers? LOL.

Well, I am a new pumpkin planter myself, but make sure it does have GREAT soil. Jackie said they can get bugs on them but mine don't have any.. yet. keep your fingers crossed. Laura, I really have found my pumpkin plant to be very easy and hardy... and I JUST got my flowers bloomin! I am just looking for the bees to do their work on my plant, and my Roma Tomato plant too (they got flowers a couple weeks back) But, pumpkins should be planted earlier on, in spring. I wonder if you will get pumpkins this year off of it? I am thinking it may not.. I don't know. I went on a few sights and I do know you need so many weeks without frost to produce... so I don' t know if where you live, you'll get any... Good luck! My guy is really easy to take care of!!! Enjoy!! A.

;)I just have to grin Laura cause of my 'ADVANCED" Pumpkin planting technique.. after we were done with Jack O Lantrens I just smashed the pumkins and threw them in the garden. I've had pumkins grow in all sorts of funny places. If there is a seed and some dirt I think you can get pumkins We sure didn't have any prize winners but I think pumkins are a very relaxed plant lol

Yeah, we usually just throw our prior years out in the field. They grow well with corn. The shade from the corn protects them. ~If they dry out they your pumpkins will be done growing early. Some people swear by planting any melon in a pile or seasoned manure (not the fresh stuff as it will burn your plants)I really should check if I have any coming up this season. We have hay where my pumpkins were last year & they'r ein the process of baling so I should make sure they don't get squished.
