Man oh Man, I tell you guys my distirct just loves to drive me crazy
I called a special IEP back in January of this year to get Christopher's extended school year in place for this summer. Can we say, PLENTY OF TIME...
During the school year Chris does not need a one on one at his private school BUT it was agreed by all that he would need one at the extended school year. Mainly cause he still tends to wonder off and its being held at our local college campus and there are just tooooo many chances for him to wonder. K, district agreed to the one on one back in January and I nicely reminded them look now cause the good ones go fast and before spring they will have trouble finding one. Hmmmm you think they would EVER listen to me, NOOOOOOO
K, well Chris starts next Monday and as of yet nooo one on one has been hired
I called the case manager last Friday and asked her again WHATS UP?? Being that was the last day of school for our district, I figured I would find out. NOT As of yet nooo one has been hired
I told her noooo way would Chris get on that bus Monday without an aid in place and she says to me "I don't blame you" Grrrrrrrr
Does it ever go smoothly??

I'd call that case manager and ask if it will be her or the special education director that will be your child's aid until they hire someone!??!!! By law...it's in his IEP...he is to attend ESY and he is to have an aid! Can we say "file a complaint?"!! I'd do it the first minute he sets foot on school property without an aid. I have very little tolerence for the public school and they know it. I have them write in the IEP that they have to have "WHATEVER" done by "DATE" for the ESY. It's already in Maggie's IEP for next year. They love me! LOL That way we all know what is expected and when it will be done. Does that mean I don't have to call them and still remind them? NO! I still do. But, at least I know that I have them by the collar if they don't do what they are supposed to. May the "Force" be with you! I consider them all Darth Vader!

Here in the state of Florida or at least Pinellas County we have a thing called "Choice" that is basically where you put in a request for your child to attend a certain school..They ask for your top 5 choices and they choose what your child gets so the faster you get this in the better to get at leaast one of the top 2 choices..Well, Kourtney is going into a VE Kindergarden class in August and she is IEP...At the last IEP before school let out in May..I asked if I needed to apply with the CHOICE program to get her into a good school ..Because the school she has ben at for the last 2 years (Pre-K) doesn't have a Kindergarden VE class...They told me "No"..Well, The school board calls me and informs me that they have no openings for her ..I asked "Why not"..They told me beacuse you never filled out a CHOICE application.....Hello, the gloves came off then..I explained to her that at her last IEP I was told I didn't need to fill that out, and she said "Well, you should have because no we can't find space for her .I said, "Well, somebody better find space for her, or else they would be hearing from my attorney. (Mind you I don't have an attorney lol). Anyways 2 hours later she called me back and had put Kourtney in the school that I wanted her in and that was that. The school board here really doesn't like me. Last year I got 2 bus drivers fired and a teacher written up and I LOVE to pop in on class..Plus it is in Kourtney's IEP that she have curb to curb service with an air conditoned bus...At the begining of last year they were fighting me about the A/C bus...Needless to say one of the girls I was working with her sister was running for the school board, and she ran with the problems that I was having with Kourtney and helped me a TON..The super intendent called me at home and mad esure that everything was worked out and his assistant called me like 4 times thru-out the school year..I really hope that this year runs smooth...Ya, kinda get a complex when you are known as a barracuda..Funny that is what her teacher and lasst bus driver told me ..She said when she was handed the info on Kourtney, she was warned that this kids mother is a barracuda and will call anyone she can to get what she needs... I thought that is how we are supposed to be....LOL Michele CC-- Give em heck girlie Plus I agree with Maggie's mom let him go and then file a complaint as soon as he steps on school property without an aide. GOOD LUCK

THANKS Gals
K, this is sooo freakin typical for my district I tell you. A while back my advocate found a young man that is studing the Special Ed field that was very interested in working with Chris. Well my district would not hire him because he got $15.00 an hour and they felt that was to much and they could find someone cheaper themselves. Man oh Man just another, hold off due to money, Grrrrrr
Well, I am happy to say after a few calls today, my district now has agreed to pay this young man that my advocate found to work with Chris during the extended school year program because they were unable to find someone cheaper. Talk bout wait to the last min. Geez BUT this time THANKFULLY it has all worked out
Money is not supposed to be an issue BUT here its ALWAYS the issue
Anywho I am HAPPY once again, the young man aka Steven just phoned me to get any input that he could that would help Chris have a GREAT summer program Can we say YEA. I have to tell you I am thrilled he will have a male for a one on one as Chris really does much better working with men
Man can you believe my district, I BET you can...

Hooray!
I'm glad that it all worked out so easily.
I know how to fight, but I'd rather avoid one at all costs! It takes too much time and effort away from Maggie and our family. But it just plain gives me a head ache!!!
Take care. Keep us posted on how his summer program goes.
