Hi,
My son James (DS 6 yrs) fell down some stairs a month and a half ago and broke his arm, yesterday he was running and tripped and broke his foot. Has anyone heard of people with DS having weak bones or something. James is clumsy (I dont think that's too unusual) but he seems so vulnerable. Any comments.

Jason, First off welcome..My 11 months old sons name is Jason. My daughter Kourtney (DS) is 5 and I have been fortunate and she has yet to break anything. Sorry I can't be of any assistance on this subject. Does he get enough calcium ? Take vitiams? Good luck and sorry to hear that he has broken no one thing but two Michele

Hmmm...not sure if this is a DS thing or maybe just a boy thing! I would guess that it is just a clumsy boy thing. My 6 year old jumped off of his bed about 2 years ago and broke his foot.
Ya know, I'm sure with the cast on his arm his balace was a little off anyway... maybe that's why he fell.

In this article on Dr. Leshin's site it comments at the bottom that there is no evidence that children with Ds have more broken bones than typical children. It was an interesting read, however, and if your child has any of the other orthopedic and hip problems, etc, I would think it could contribute to being a bit clumsey. www.ds-health.com/ortho.htm

JASON, WELCOME to UNO ;D
My son, Christopher a few years back fell in the bathtub and broke two bones in his foot and my daughter, Kodi Lee fell off her scooter a while back and broke her wrist Christopher also has DS, Kodi does not. I don't believe DS has anything to do with weaker bones (least not that I have ever heard ) I just think its how they might of fell that caused the break.
Wishing James NOOOO more breaks for a long long time
CC ~
