Just got back from a visit w/the cardiologist... was wondering if anyone's child has had surgery to fix an AV Canal defect and still had a leaky mitral valve following surgery? We may be looking at another surgery and I was wondering if anyone out there is/was in the same shoes as my little guy. Thanks for sharing!!!

Nicole, All went well for Kourtney and she is 5 now and still doing good. I wish you luck with this, and hope that everything turns out good. Having surgery is always scary. Mathew will me in my prayers.
Hugs to the little guy

Derek has the same thing and they say that it will have to be repaired eventually but we are looking at years in the future. His regurg is minimal and has actually gotten a bit better as the years go by. The pc talked about doing it when he was about 12 and has now bumped it up till his 20's.
Hugs

Well.. Courtney,10yr.. has never had any issues with her heart till she was 2 1/2 and she developed a mitral valve regurgition it is mild. She is on meds to help with the flow.. there a chance in the future we may have to repair for now.. All is good!

My son Dylan now 16 months old had his AV Canal repair when he was 5 months old. He too has a leak that will need to be repaired ! We see the cardio. every six months to keep an eye on it!! So far no changes. He sees the cardio. again in October. They told us they really can't say when he will need to have it repaired, could be anywhere from 1 year to 4 years!

Thanks for sharing all. I'm just going to try to keep positive and not drive myself crazy thinking about the "what ifs" for now.
