Ok.... First of all, today was my birthday. (sarcasam is dripping here guys...) Bear with me.
Brace had an appt at Arkansas Children's Hospital to see the orthopedic specialist. We have had this appt for 3 months, to get a second opinion on AFO'S..............
Well, his appt was at 1:30. As soon as we got there, they rush us off to radiology for X-rays.. They start trying to do an X-ray of Brace's neck. I asked what they were doing??? They said they had orders to do a cervical scan to check the AAI. I told them that Brace had already had that done back in Nov. with normal results....If they checked his chart, they would see it had already been done. I told them, they were at the "wrong end", as we were there to just get a second opinion for AFO's......
So, they do a couple of hip and feet X-rays, asking me if Brace had "an extra toe" I told them no, he had 10, 5 on each foot...(he had his socks on, but I have no idea where that came from) they then send us back to the ortho clinic to wait to see the Dr..We waited, and waited and waited some more.....
Finally, we get back to a room and a student Dr pops in. He asks if Brace has an extra toe. I told him no, that I just want a second opinion on the AFO recommendation. He looks at Brace's feet and says"yea, he has flat feet, alright." How's his neck? I bite my tongue and go through the whole neck story again......So, he says, "I'll be back with the Dr." and we wait some more......
Well, my kids are hungry, I'm trying very hard to remember the "if you can't say something nice" rule and my husband is looking worried that I am about to cause one ugly scene.... LOL.
I finally had enough and put Brace's shoes on him, gathered up all the stuff I had dragged out of my bag to keep 2- 4 year olds entertained while waiting and head for the door. The back room nurse is flabbergasted that I am leaving saying something about "you haven't seen the Dr." I am like" exactly why we are leaving... My appt was at 1:30, that was over 4 hours ago." Have a nice day.....
I get out in the hall/waiting room and there is not a soul in sight...no receptionist, nothing....they forgot us in the back room. I am not even sure the Dr was even there. Probably off shooting fireworks somewhere, as it was getting dark.............
I have always had wonderful experiences at this hospital. I have often said Brace wouldn't be here if it weren't for them, but today I was just blown away.....
I know everyone is entitled to a bad day, but this was too much...............Maybe if I said..."yes, he has an extra toe? Just a thought....
We stopped at McDonalds on the way home...Happy Birthday to me...
too bad MickeyD's doesn't have a happy hour.... ;D ;D
So, I have no idea if Brace needs the AFO's or not...Guess I won't know until I find another pediatric ortho...Hope your day was better than mine...
I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th!!! Kim
