Since we DID overtake Dolly's post and where talking about PECS, I thought I'd continue it here because I wanted to respond again LOL.
Since Debi was talking about the notebook and PECS, I wanted to say that I just made one for Russell too. I took a 1 inch 3 ring binder and bought some floppy disk holders (looks like page protectors but are to hold floppies in a binder) at Office Depot and used them to hold each Picture PEC I made. I also bought TAB DIVIDERS to make sections or subjects for them too. I also put a pic on the outside of it of Russell They have it at school to use and I have one here I need to finish. The tabs I bought have pockets too so the school can put their own that may be bigger in the pockets.. and I also included some photo sheet holders in there for bigger pics too.
Some have velcro instead of what I did. Russell use to have a small one from the school he attended for a bit when we moved into IL that had velcro for the pics to keep in the book. But it all got thrashed. So I switched to making a book with as MUCH protection as possible so Russell can continue to use this for years to come!
I started doing this because I realized there was a place online called elliecards and they were SO expensive for the packet. I decided to start making my own for Russell. The elliecards are photo pics like mine are. The traditional PECS which are cartoon or drawn type pics don't work with kids that have Autism like Russell.... so the photos work better. I tend to feel that photo PECS are better for ALL kids that want to communicate.. NOT just ones with Autism.
