Ok...I know we've beat this dead horse before but...this is driving me crazy and I don't have far to go!!! Collin, 4 yrs, depending on the day can be any where from 75% to a 100 % trained going #1 and 100% trained going #2. This is what my problem is. Collin will get up and go to the bathroom mostly independently but sometimes may need reminders. Collin never has a full blown accident but he continues to dampen himself before he gets to the toilet. I'm not sure if he does not have control or if there may be a medical reason for this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Connie

Connie perhaps he just doesn't have enough control yet but from the sounds of it he is doing GREAT!!!!!! For us we have a timing issue, Justin after he goes in his pants will take everything off and yell peepee and head for the bathroom and sit on the potty, but it seems that he only knows he went when he feels it in his diaper. I'll be waiting patiently for the responses on this one

Wow, Connie! I can not believe that Collin just 4 is almost there! Luke doesn't go by himself, only if we take him. He is doing pees and even poops in the toilet, (which is very big deal for us), but never goes independently. I do not think that Collin has a medical problem, I think it is very early for our DS children to be potty trained at this age, so may be it takes more time for him to learn how control himself. But if you have a strong concern about it, just ask your doctor. Any way, I am VERY proud of Collin! Alice

kayla also needs me to take her to the potty, although this past couple of months she's started telling me that she needs to pee pee or poop (she says poopity poop, it's funny!) kayla is going on 4 in september.
i also wanted to mention that my 5 (FIVE) year old, needs to be reminded all the time! he'll just stand around and do that dangit pee pee dance till it drives you nuts! and he's supposedly "perfectly normal" so go figure.

Connie,
I agree with everyone else that is sounds like Colin is doing great. I had two stepsons (typical) and they would wait till the last minute and wet themselves standing in front of the toilet before they could get their pants down.

CONNIE Just wanted to share that Chris was trained much much later then Collin and no he never had this problem BUT my very good pal her son who is now 22 was trained very young, she told me her son had the same exact thing going on as Collin, when he was soo young, BUT as he got older was noo longer a problem
Not sure here, just a guess, but sounds like Collin will do better and better as he matures more. BUT if you really think there could be a medical problem, go to the source and have it checked out, BUT my guess its not medical, just a little more time needed

This is SSSOOO common- you are doing GREAT!! Lots of kids with DS who are basically trained, still often misss- and the incidence of "missing" will go down slowly. (It may still take another year or two.) Often kids are preoccupied in something else and they either don't notice that they need, or they procrastinate.
One option that helps might be a potty chair in a few rooms.

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement!! My biggest problem with him dampening himself is I don't want him to be embarrassed at school or in public. I don't put a pull up on him during the day because he is one smart cookie and knows the difference and will wet in it... About putting a potty in every room....when we first started (with all my kids) I always had 2 pottys one for the bath room and one to put in the room we were in which worked really well. But, since Collin has progressed and insists on standing up I have big (I mean BIG) issues with his aim So, He has to use the big potty (its a bigger target to hit!!!) Thanks, Connie

Sounds like Collin is doing great !! Bladder control is a hard thing for little people, he get the hang of it in time. My nephew who 6 (w/o ds) sometimes has accidents on the way to the toilet to.
I wish that my son Ian 3.5 yrs. old (w/o ds) will do both, lately he goes pee once a day if not, made one poo, we told him if he wants to play with the vaccuum cleaner he has to poop or pee in the toilet that is our rule or if he wants something he has to earn it by going to the potty. (By the way Ian LOVES vaccuum cleaners and rug cleaners, they are Never plugged in, he makes his own vaccuum noise!!!!) LOL !!! ;D
