This morning I went on a marathon:I needed, all by foot to:
-first to photocopy some papers
-then to buy a water bottle holder (canteen)-mine had disapeared
-buy some writing supplies
-then I was to go to the health fund, to get permission ($) to take Ricki to a nearly opened DS clinic in Jerusalem (the first in Israel) , and also to go to their pharmacy to get some medicne I need
- from there to buy parakeet food at the pet store
-from there to the optomitrist to have her straighten Ricki's glasses out
- and finally I was to be at the speech therapist by 1:00 PROMPT
Afraid I would run short of time, and hot as could be, Ricki and I took a Taxi from the writing supplies store to the health fund. I hurriedly exited the taxi across the street from the fund. I took Rina to the curb. I closed my purse, grabbed her hand, and looked carefully both ways before crossing....
and got a ticket for $25 for not walking to the nearest road crossing to cross the street...... This steet is moderately busy, but not terribly so... and the street is quite narrow there. (About 60 feet away, a major thouroughfare enters the same road; there it IS very dangerous to cross....)
Well, it is true that they need to teach people to use crosswalks, but I had crossed SO carefully, I was really peeved. And the policelady took so long to write up the report while the minutes were ticking away...
In the end, I was told at the health fund that they will have to "think" whether to pay for the DS clinic (if the health department sponsored the clinic's opening, I should think they should pay...but anything is possible...)
And believe it or not, I arrived at the speech therapist with about 30 seconds to spare... ;D
