That it takes them SO MUCH LONGER to get better?
I was thinking of Russell being sick right now and reading other posts of sick kids. Do your kids take longer to recover? I know for us, it takes Russell 2-3 weeks to get over JUST a cold. HE gets it SO bad too. I know some of it is due to the reflux. Because it's so wet inside, he gets coughs when he gets a cold and MAN I have never SEEN so much SNOT! LOL I just feel so bad for him, because there is nothing you can do for it. Except ride the wave... and the cough is the last thing to go.. it stays a long time sometimes.
Does that happen to our kids in general??? Anyone else have that happen to their kids?
Just wondering...
A.

YUP A ~ I have noticed the same thing with Christopher Although I will say when he was just a tiny guy he really seem to get over things much faster, not sure why but as he gets older, seems to take him longer Not sure if that is a general rule with ones with DS but it sure is true here. CC

Same here ;D ............... it takes Paige days and weeks to get over anything My pediatrician said that it would get better as she got older, but after reading your stories, it sure doesn't seem likely, lol......... Debbie

Same on this end as well....Kourtney when she gets sick she gets it good.. I knock on wood because we have been pretty fortunate this year with her and illness. It does seem to take her awhile to get over things...Strange never really thought about it. Michele Hope Russell gets better soon

John-John has never seemed to be sicker longer. He had a VSD at birth that closed by itself. He's been really healthy. If his sister had something for 3 days, he had it for 3 days.

I do notice Ashley has had the same runny eyes and nose for about 3 weeks. Dr. says let it run its course. So i do beleive it could be so.

Betty may be the odd ball here!! Back in March Betty had her first bout with the stomach, that lasted 3 days and then a month later she had a ear infection (first one)and that lasted 2 days and then a week later a sinus infection (also her first one) and that last 4 days. So I'd say she recovered pretty quick. She was her ole self 2 days later.
Ian her brother (w/o ds) had the stomach flu right after Betty's flu, and he ended up in the hospital for 2 days, all together he was sick for 8 days and it took him a little bit to get back to his old self. Even last year when he had the flu, it took about 3 weeks to fully recover.

When Sarah gets a cold it lasts forever. Her pediatrician said that she just keeps catching new colds before she is over the last one. She has a runny nose and cough for months. Our ped insists that it is a virus not allergies. Chris

This is an intresting point you have raised,I notice with Chris he is the same it takes him forever just to get over a little cold.I also have noticed he does not like change, for instance when we went on vacation it took Chris a day or two to be himself does anyone else see this in there kids?(he is not autistic)maybe it is just his nature.chris m.

When Rhienne would get colds, they would last forever. Inevitably he would end up with a sinus infection. Talk about SNOT. ugh! They wouldnt want him to come to school with thick yellow and green stuff coming out of his nose, but the doctors didnt want to give him an antibiotic either. Then he got his tonsil and partial adenoid-ectomy. It helped a lot. What put the icing on the cake was the allergy and asthma meds. He takes Singulair, Rhinocort, and Zyrtec, with Prevacid added for the reflux. Now, when he gets a cold, he is pretty much over it in a couple of days - and it is no where near as bad as before. The allergy meds seem to keep him open and clear enough for all the crap to just run it's course quickly. I AM IN LOVE!!!

I can relate to this post! Matthew had heart surgery at 11 weeks, but we were able to keep him otherwise healthy up until I went back to work. Once he started daycare, forget it! The poor thing had a few stomach viruses, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, ear infections...we felt like he never caught a break! I've had him home for the summer (it's nice to be a teacher! ) and he's been healthy!

Adam also takes a bit longer to get better, I was told that his immune system is not as good as a typical child. We had one big problem with aspirational pneumonia when he was younger. (14 in the first 2 years). The problem was that whenever he had to be given oxygen he was always slow to wean off and be able to just get regular O2 readings on room air.
