LOL...even with Emily working and living 700 miles away I just cant let go......
She wants to come home for our Buddy Walk....Chris Burke and Joe and John are actually gracing the plains of the Texas Panhandle for our walk.....and she also wants to see our new home which we will be moving into the week before.
Problem is...she has done quite well for several years flying alone on Southwest ...but we always book her on thru flites...ones where she does not have to change planes in Dallas. She did have an unexpected aircraft change once and did well with that....but.....
Norine says its easiest on them to get her to flites in Houston in the evening. This eliminates the thru flites....last one leaves around noon for here.
My kids say ...."Mom...Emily can read the monitors...figure it out......CHILL."....LOL........but this is a skill we have never really practiced....of course she knows what the monitors are ....but I have never really had her find our plane and there are a bunch of flites to Amarillo listed usually at Love Field and I worry she wont know which one and which gate.
Yes...I know she could ask for help....but we all know that late in the day flites get backed up....people get cross and airports get crazy.
She has a cell phone and I guess worst case scenario....she calls her bro David and says...."come get me".....LOL....
I wonder if we ever really truly cut our apron strings....

Oh wow I would be so with you on the feelings of letting her do it herself and not worrying, But thats what being a great mom is all about it!
Emily will be fine! she is a bright young lady and I know she will be able to load and unload fine!! You have raised a wonderful girl!!

Jackie, Some of the best "practice" for some stuff is done by just jumping in there.....and I have NO doubt at all that Emily can navigate the airport and get to the right gate. CHILL OUT Mama Jackie. She'll show you how able she is to do this!!! Susan

To be Honest Jackie I would wonder a bit if you weren't a little bit concerned. YES I am sure Emily will pull this off BUT for pete sake you are her Mom and I don't care how old our kids get or how far away they go from us we as parents worry and are allowed to. Its part of the Mom genes
You can cut the apron strings by letting them go but that doesn't mean you can't still be concerened at times.
Thats my 2cents on the the subject and I'm sticking to it

I gotta say I'm with CC on this one! It's part of our job as Mom to worry about our kids - no matter how old they are or how far away from us they may go! But it's also part of our job to let them make their own way in life, something that I think you have done a fantastic job of doing! Look at all that Emily has accomplished and will continue to accomplish!

Thanks Guys....Norine and Emily called last night on a speaker phone and we all hashed this out. I think Norine sensed my concern and is fine with Em leaving a bit earlier in the day on the thru flite....of course...dependable ole SWA often has unscheduled aircraft changes on those thru flites so she still might be wandering around Love Field.....but...as I mentioned....she handled it find the last time it happened. But now our house deal is all messed up again and we might not be in the new one by then so the trip will have to be cancelled......we have put it on hold for the moment and Em seems fine with that. This HOUSE buisness has certainly made this the Summer from H........
