OK, I'm 23 weeks pregnant here, so I guess you all get it that I'm quite hormonal! However, during mass yesterday, my son wrapped his arms around my incredible growing waist and said "I love this baby so much I just can't let her go!" Needless to say spontaneous crying...panicked b/c I'm in a public place bawling...grabbing for KLEENEX!!! Then he proceeds to comfort me, rubbing my back, saying "Aw Mommy don't cry - I didn't mean to make you cry!" I can't help imagining what kind of hurtles Little No-name might be in for - but she is definately starting out with a major advantage - one terrific big brother! Please, I don't mean this in a boastful way, but this kid is the sweetest, kindest person. I don't know what I did here, but must have done something right!!! LOL So, there's my little moment in church...another realization of life's little blessings. Just had to share.
Then from there a two hour drive to the Wachovia Spectrum in Philly to second row seats at the Wiggles concert. Anthony says "hello" ladies, LOL. I gotta tell you. Those guys are amazing, especially Jeff. The oldest guy out of the group running around like a fiend throughout the whole stadium. Now the audience, well let's just say they're a little scary and I'll leave it at that. WOW! LOL
By the way, when I say Little No-name, I mean Little No-name. Husband didn't like any of the names I had waiting for him when he came home. I tell you all that work and no appreciation! Plus, he doesn't offer anything!!! Will this girl ever have a name?
Hope everyone has a great day today!!!

Awwww, your little Ryan sounds like the sweetest little boy! He's going to be one awesome big bro! That story was very touching, made me tear up a little I'm such a cry baby! You know, I don't know what it is with husband's and naming their dear daughters, but oh my gosh, my dh and I were the same way when we named our daughter! He shot down any and every name I came up with! Augh! I wanted her to have an unusual name and he likes those nice, normal names and we just clashed big time! Naming Aidan was easy...I was like "his name is supposed to be Aidan and that's that" and I felt from the moment I was pregnant that his name was Aidan Matthew...and dh didn't argue. But having that girl, man...that's tough! I wish you luck! Staci proud mommy to Aidan Matthew 9-19-00 (DS) and Alison Parker 5-27-03 (see, mommy and daddy BOTH got their ways) but we call her Parker (mommy wins!) hehe

Dear C-bean,
Be on the lookout for 2 more spontaneous eruptions in public. My friends who have kids with Ds all report 3 incidents and then they are fine. So, if you are true to form, you are a third of the way there!
As for the big bro, we just dropped our older sibling off at college. Everyone worries about the effect the kid with Ds will have on the siblings. Everybody worries that the other kid will get short-changed.
The older one graduated summa cum laude from her catholic high school where she was awarded the Pax Christie (highest award given by the school) by a vote of the senior class and faculty. She was selected to give the keynote address at graduation where she pointed out to 1,000+ people that her brother with Ds taught her about the most sterling qualities of compassion, humor, hard work, overcoming adversity etc... She went on to say she never dreamed a class of 300 high school kids could develop those same qualities, but they had with the guidance of the faculty.
We forced her to cut the graduation party list to 150.
Fast-forward to Mass at move-in day at the "highly selective" catholic university. The president, in his homily, talked about a recent graduate who decided to come to the university because it was in her home town. While she had many offers from other universities, she felt she needed to stay home and help with her developmentally disabled brother. She had plans to do pre-med. The department professors found she had a gift for psycho-biology. She was just awarded a Fulbright to study the effects of kids with developmental disabilities on families in Asian cultures. He wanted to point out her selfless nature and ability to fit into a campus where she was Bhuddist instead of catholic, day hopper instead of living in a dorm and had english as a second language.
I wanted to point out that there are too many success stories like this to simply rule out the positive effect a sibling with Down syndrome can have on the family.
Have a great day!

Awww........your little boy is such a sweetheart! My older daughter is passionate about her little sister with Ds. When I watch them together I always think that no other sisters could possibly love each other more than my daughters love each other. My older daughter always tells me that I never have to worry because she will always take care of Sarah. She also says she will make sure Sarah is always dressed in the lastest fashion. No one would wish a disability on a child but it is amazing how much positive influence Sarah has on so many people. Your tender-hearted son will probably be more likely to stay that way because of his little sister. Give that sweet boy a hug for me. Chris

Awww... Sounds like LittleNo-Name will be blessed with a great big brother!
Gotta share with you how Alison came to have the name she does! Hubbie and I could not agree on a girls name - he wanted Chloe, I wanted Emma. Mind you, I know that she is going to be a she but he doesn't because he didn't want to know that part of the anmio results! And yes, somehow I did manage to keep it a secret right up til the time she popped out, told absolutely NO ONE she was a she! Right up to delivery time, we had not come to an agreement on a name! Alison got her name because the Elvis Costello song by that name was playing when she decided to make her entrance! We did agree on her middle name - Celeste - but had very different reasons for liking it! I liked it just because! He liked it because he is an avid bicyclist and celeste is the name of the color of his favorite bicycle!
Wishing you LOTS and LOTS of luck in the baby name game!
Barb

Ryan is a sweetheart ;DO NOT ask this board for their opinion on names unless you want more then the "name books" have I knew a couple that each wrote a list, traded lists and crossed off the ones they did not like and ended up with one. As for Little No Name, I knew one called BJ(for Bundle of Joy) before they had a name. Better then the one called Bozo because that is what the older sibling thought they should call it when it came out I can't wait to hear what you decide. We Never decide on names until the very last.

Oh how I love checking in here everyday! Thank you MB for two great inspirational stories...I can never read enough of them! Barb - so funny to hear how Alison acquired her name. My husband is a huge Costello fan...in fact I do believe Alison may be a contender. Why do I feel like someone keeps shouting ;DBetty ;D at me. Can anyone else hear that? or is it just me!?! LOL He's also a huge Boston fan and I was nervous for names like Amanda and Holly Ann...but he said he was out of that phase. Now if it was 5 years ago and Ryan was a girl well, then we'd be arguing! Pat thanks for the advice, but too late, LOL...the names have been coming in. I love it...very interesting to see what people come up with and I love the stories of how the names came to be. I may just post an "official" contest yet! To think of all the hidden surprises I might be up against...the name is starting to become my biggest concern! LOL
Hope this day is finding you all well and happy!
