I saw these about a year ago, when someone posted a link on another list that I'm on. I was pretty appalled, because I have never seen a baby with DS that looked like this. Cbean, I have to tell you that all of my kids are beautiful (sorry, what can I say, I'm their MOM!) but Ethan was by far the prettiest baby. Those delicate little features and tiny nose make for some beautiful faces. In fact, Ethan was such a darn pretty baby that people always mistook him for a girl, even though he was wearing blue. So put those pictures right out of your head, and go right on over to the photo album for some REAL pictures of beautiful kids with DS

ok...the ebay dolls are HORRIBLE!... BUt Christie...you have a boy w/ ds..... I can tell you that Courtney LOVES any dolls that even half way look like her. They Beenie Boppers that Ty puts out are her favorite! They are very cute with little flat faces... But another one she really wants is: www.downsyndromedolls.com/Mikael.htmlWe are probably gonna get another outfit...because someone has NO SENSE of style! lol Courtney has MANY MANY dolls....but she loves playing with the ones that look more like her....I guess it makes her feel more at "home"... The ones at www.downsyndromedolls.com are not as expensive as the others....and you can wash them in the washing machine!!! Talk about user friendly! I wish I could throw her beenie boppers in there, but they would fall to pieces! Someone really needs to ask that ebay lady to stop! OUCH!

LOL Jenn! I was hoping for a change of clothes for that poor doll. This doll is definately more tasteful and affordable!!! But why do they have to dress that poor thing like that?? I'm glad you brought it up, b/c I didn't want to insult anyone! LOL Thank you for sharing Courtney's view on things!

Hello guys, I haven't posted in awhile, I've just been busy. These dolls looks nothing like our beautiful babies. I find them offensive and would never think about purchasing one. I never knew such thing was out there. I'm not sure why anyone would even try to make something to resemble anyone with a disability. There awlful Jeannette mom to MeKyah(10 mnths-ds)

CBean that is EXACTLY what I am afraid of! I am terrified that people with a prenatal diagnosis of DS are going to see these and terminate because that's what they think their babies are going to look like. There is enough fear when you get that diagnosis, people don't need to see this kind of thing.....I wouldn't mind her making them if she had a disclaimer in VERY big words that said her dolls looked nothing like a real child with DS, or something like that. And if she just took the DS label off of the dolls all together.

OMG, ;D First of all, these dolls are created to scary little kids and even adults. Second, they do not have anything in common with our kids with DS. Third, if you do not like them do not buy them. And finally, if you have strong felling that these dolls are offensive, write a letter to the creator/creators with all our comments and ask them to sell this product to the scary movies creators (they probably need them very much). ;D ;D ;D Personally I do not think so that girls with DS need dolls with DS.

OH MY GOSH! Does anyone live near C-Bean? If I were pregnant and expecting a baby with Down syndrome and saw those first three dolls, someone would have to come pick me up off the floor.

Oh people have been writing her letters, she absolutely refuses to respond no matter how civil you are. So now people are complaining to EBAY. These dolls have been around for years so obviously writing to the maker is not working. Maybe if enough people complain to EBAY it will do some good.

omg.... You HAVE to be kidding? ? These are ....for real? Actually they make me laugh....doesnt take much to realize they dont typify DS......they look like something from the horror flicks Em loves to check out. I have never really seen the need for Emily to have Down Syndrome....'anythings' really......anymore than I go out and buy figurines of old fat women....LOL...but...I do have to make one exception For years I have collected the Simpich carollers and cloud babies made in Colorado Springs. They are pretty pricey but handmade and unique. A few years ago I got a brochure in the mail from them and just HAD to buy this one... www.simpich.com/catalog/cloud/clddear.htm www.simpich.com/Jackie

Don't like them at all, she tries to give an excuse in her comments, I am an avid ebayer and have a couple of friends that work for them, I have emailed them but don't really know the logistics about removing an auction, will have to wait and see. This should cheer everyone up.. Clint

Have to tell you Emilys ...dolly tale.....
Years ago when she was 4 or 5...she had this cheep large lifelike baby doll that she got from Santa and promptly named Baby Christmas. Mostly she just pushed it around stark naked in a doll stroller...the sort of forgot about it. One day I went into her room and there it was with its face covered in black magic marker....? Anyhow...a few months later they rescued, on live TV, Baby Jessica from that well in Texas of course with ALL of us watching as they brought her up almost totally black from the dirt and whatever it took to get her out after two days.....then missing Emily for quite some time...we went in search and there she was in her bathroom ....tears streaming down her face...trying frantically to scrub all the black off her dollys little face....tooooo cute. Alas..... Baby Christmas had a sad ending...one day Emily came out pushing her .....headless...around and talking to the body....and finally David said...this is just toooooo gross and told Em to find its head and together they disposed of it. LOL...we STILL kid her about all this. Jackie

going on a limb here...posting pics... But I want Cbean to see what my angel looked like when she was born... Of course I am her mother and I thought she was beautiful! One hour old Katie One month old Katie 3 months old Okay.. I am gonna say this...NO OFFENSE INTENDED... When Katie was born, my biggest fear was that she would have that "mongoloid" look. I immediately started looking at photos of children with DS and my fears were releived. My Angel is beautiful (to me anyway). So CBean... do not worry.. I have never seen an infant with DS that even closely resembled those dolls. Remember, your child will still have your husbands and your genes... so she will look a lot like the two of you! Tacky as this may sound... maybe those dolls are formed from parents with a not too pretty gene pool. Okay.. I have done my tactless post for the day. Please do not jump on me.. I am so close to the edge.. I could certainly go postal. Hugs and thanks for letting me vent... even if distastefully! Hugs, Cathy Oops Forgot to mention, that I feel for any people who are pregnant, expecting a child with DS and sees those pics.... It would be one more thing to worry about. To me, it does not send out a true pic of what our kids are. They would definitely make that decision in the other post (about terminating) seem like the right thing to do. So if there are any pg's out there... Worry NOT! Our kids are all beautiful!!!! Hugs, Me

Whoa! Those are some pretty ugly dolls. They remind me of those spoofs of a lady pushing a baby carriage and you look in the carriage and see a grown man's face with a baby bonnet on? Anyone remember this? I do understand why someone would think making a doll with Ds is a good idea. It is the same reasoning that people make Asian, African-American, American-Indian, Eastern Indian, etc., dolls. Really, those beautiful Downi dolls can't be meant for children. I certainly would never spend $175 on a doll and then give it to a child! I read the link to the Downi Creations and they were created educate people about Ds and to create public awareness. Chris

Those doll's look awful! I was a little offended to be honest. I think it is because I take a personal afront since I have Down syndrome. I don't mind the other doll's at all. I have to say that they looked better.
I understand the doll concept as an aide to teaching children about differences. Visual aides can be good when teaching these things. I could never buy one for my neice's because they don't reflect anything about me. My Down syndrome is only a part of me it is not completely me.
The only doll I had was a Mrs. Beasley doll and she was great! I played with cars, trucks and GI Joe's. I guess that shows off my age doesn't it?
No one uses the word "mongoloid" much anymore. I do understand why the word is used. It is a word that is very dated though. That word just enforces the stereotype in people's mind's. I am beginning to wonder if we will ever get past it.
