Hi, I've been lurking around the board reading for a bit now, thought I should introduce myself. My name is Laura and I have a 3 1/2 yr old boy named Elias and a 4 month old daughter named Parker who was born with DS. We had not done any testing so it was a shock at first. Parker is doing very well, nursing and kicking and squirming and napping just like a pro.
A friend of mine found this site for me and I am very thankful to her. Considering that this was baby #2 I expected to be the laid back experienced mama this time around, but I find I have just as many questions this time as I did the first. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and your little ones and picking your brains, and sharing your experiences.
Laura

Welcome Laura! Glad your friend found us for you! I had found this site when my son was 4 month old and that was my lifesaver at that time, now it is fun to be part of this site. I am more than sure that you will like to be here as we all do! Ask your questions and you'll get lots of answers and opinions... Looking forward to get to know you and your family. Hi Laura and WELCOME and congratulations on the birth of your daughter Parker.
Wish I had a puter when Sarah was born - it would have made such a difference. Sarah is 12 and is also my 2nd child - I live in Ireland. I look forward to hearing more about your family.

Welcome Laura, Parker and family!
I am Cathy, mom to the Princess Katie... who will be 4 in November and her sister Emily who is a kindergarten dropout at the age of 5 (too boring for her).
This is a wonderful board, the parents and family that post are most knowledgable and compassionate. Post up and let us know how Parker is doing!

Hey Laura! Welcome to UnoMas! You'll love it here! My name is Staci, and my son with Down syndrome is Aidan...he just turned 4! He's my little sunshine, such a little sweetie, if I do say so myself! LOL I also have a daughter named Parker! She is almost 16 months old, she was born with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, but without the extra chromosome I had Aidan days after I turned 23 and we didn't know until after he was born that he had Down syndrome and a heart defect (VSD). What a shocker! But I can truly say he has changed my life for the better. He attends pre-school and is just loving it! Anyway...enjoy it here! You'll find lots of support and information! Stick around! Staci

I have found so much support and am so thankful I found UnoMas! Since my adventure has only begun, I may not have much advice for you, but am always available for prayers, hugs and a shoulder! Welcome Laura! So glad you chimed in. We're happy to have the chance to get to know you and your precious little ones. Warning to you though...........unomas is ADDICTIVE!
I am Tricia, mom to Connor 10 and Patrick 4 (with Ds). We live in South Carolina. They keep me hopping. I found unomas when Patrick was 5 weeks old and am still an almost daily addict. Not only will you forge great friendships here....you will learn more than you ever thought possible....and in the most natural way, so that you won't even realize its happening! I tell everyone who will listen that I have gotten a masters degree in Ds from unomas. You will be exposed to the most unexpected questions and discussions, everything from diaper rash to behaviour theory to diet information and movie recommendations! You'll also learn lots about the human spirit.....and how it is alive and kicking and loving. So glad to meet you!

Hello and Welcome! This is a wonderful site!
I'm Robin M - Maggie's mom. Maggie has hearing loss as well as DS, so we're big into those issues.
I have to ask...have they checked your little one's hearing yet? If not, please do.
I hope that all children's hearing is checked at birth these days. But, if not, it's a great thing to do as soon as possible. So much can be done if it it caught early!
(Sorry, public service announcement!)
Take care.
Robin M
