I will be away for a few days, don't miss me tooo much, ROFLMAO BUT wanted to SHARE before I left... I am sooo excited at this time that I just had to share with any that are having speech troubles with their little ones. Chris is 11 and speech has been and is the hardest for him :-( BUT I am here to tell you DON'T EVER give up guys. Chris at 11 OMG the new words he is coming out with and sentences including Nouns, which makes a full sentence ;D OMG I am here with happy tears ;D I really wondered if this day would ever come but it seems to be and getting better ;D YES he still has long way to go and still lots not that understandable BUT OMG just the last few days the new words that we have worked on forever have come out ;D WTG Chris ;D Just wanted to share Don't EVER give up on the speech, it will come, I PROMISE you. One cute one today was Chris got off the bus not feeling too good and while he and I were on our way to pick up Kodi he asks for hot-dogs Hmmm LOL which for him means chicken but hot dogs for us, LOL cause he doesn't even eat hot dogs but the funny part was I said Nooo Chris you are not feeling well, I said maybe tomorrow. He looks at me and says "Come on say OK MOM, Please " LOLOL What a Character Since school started this year he is yapping up a storm and much we and others understand, HOW COOL is that ;D CC aka as one happy Mom tonight

Christie,
That is AWESOME!!! I'm so glad you posted this... I have been feeling really depressed about Eric's lack of speech. Its an issue that lays heavy on my heart. And when I see him struggling to pronounce some sounds, I can almost cry. You are right about the patience, but sometimes its really hard. Thats why it is so heartening to hear how well Chris is doing. I'm sure its been a hard, long road, but the results are rewarding to both you and Chris. I look forward to the day when Eric finally calls me "MAMA". Keep on posting the good news.

Your post warms my heart!
With Maggie's hearing loss, the question of when I'll get to hear Mama and other joyous sounds often enters my mind.
I'm so glad to hear that he is doing well and there is always hope for greater success.
Take care.

Christie,
That is AWESOME news. Good for Christopher! You and Colin deserve much of the credit for never giving up on him. I am soooo happy for you!
I belong to a list-serve that is sponsored by Dr. James MacDonald who works with kids with DS and autism (as well as late-talkers) who is a HUGE advocate for kids with DS and is always telling parents never to give up, that he has seen kids develop speech much later than in the typical population. He cautions parents about letting ANYONE tell them what their child is capable of, (unless there is a physical cause, of course) and regularly counsels parents not to be discouraged by the gloomy prognoses they get from the "experts".

This is encouraging to read as Hannah at 2 years has no speech at all. She just babbles. I am fighting at the moment to get decent speech therapy for her as it is non existant here in the UK at the moment for her

cc!!!!!! Christopher that is amazing. And CC sooo GLAD that what you have been waiting for is finally becoming a reality!!!! SEE!!!!! You have become an inspiration to all those who have kids in the same situation. Our kids are sooo different. BTW my girl has the hardest time with puzzles. NEVER has she put one together. Something about em just she can't get right now. She STILL to this day tries to SHOVE puzzle pieces in any spot and I mean shove with the sound effects and everything. SIGH guess she'll get that one later too... HUGS Steff

When I first read this after Dolly posted a response, I realized you could have replaced my name with Dolly's and Russell's with Eric's Because Dolly wrote EXACTLY how I feel pretty much on a daily basis. Even if Russell is 6.6 yrs old. CC, I love reading your posts about speech... heck, I love all your posts regarless LOL.. but, you do give me hope with Russell. I realize that with all things, some kids are better at things then others, and some need more help then others with things... and I am glad Chris is continually showing you how MUCH he can do and continues to do!!!! I know you are so proud It 's really nice when they "get it" a.

THANKS guys ;D SPEECH has always been an up hill and really still is battle for Chris, BUT I want to share that at 3 Chris said just a few words and I was told by a Doc that is supposed to be an "expert" in this area said to me "Not good, Chris will probably not say much more in his life" Hmmmmm A ~ girl I am here to tell you my Character never said Mommy till he was 5 years old. I know I have posted this before but he called me "B" till he was 5 or almost 5, I forget the exact date. But what is IMPORTANT here is he did ;D and if I had listen to this sooo called "expert" he never would have. YES, I REPEAT that Chris still has lots to work on with speech BUT I kid you not guys words he has never ever said and we have worked on for a loooooong time, he is just coming out with ;D A few years ago, I was told by my own school district, its time you give up pushing the speech and move on, Hmmmm I said then and say now BS to that, I will NEVER give up. I really want to say here guys for any of you that have real speech problems DON"T give up ;D I am convincedd that Chris will improve even more as he gets olderand just tonight at his Back to School his ST said he surprises her everday ;D CC ~

Well, the day Russell looks at me and says MOMMY I will be the happiest MOMMY in the WORLD!!! And if HE iniates it, MAN OH MAN... that is really my dream!
I sure hope he DOES say it one day. More than anything, you want your children to look at you and say MOMMY... well, maybe Russell won't LOOK at me and say it LOL.. but he will know MOMMY is who I am when he does say it..
