Am I the only one here who has a child that will not sleep. I have been giving her melatonin because the endo doc said it would work. It puts her to sleep but she is up in the middle of the night. She is difficult to deal with....

Renee, We had the same problem with our now 18 year old when he was younger. His doctor prescribed Melatonin and it did nothing for him at all. Then, he prescribed Clonidine (Catapres) and it worked like a charm. It is technically given for hypertension, but has not had any effect on Justin's blood pressure at all. It's worth mentioning to a doc, I think. Susan

When we talked to our doc about Melatonin for Russell for the same reason, he said Melatonin is to GET alseep.. not to stay asleep.. that is not what it's for. We tried it with Russell and yes, he can still wake up on it.
Russell always has been a "waker"... in off and on phases.. thank GOODNESS... he is in a sleeping phase at the moment.. but that can change with the blink of an eye.. there are months Russell (nor I) sleep well.

Kaylee makes loud noises when she sleeps--so I feel that she is not getting deep sleep for sure. She has had her tonsils out--but not her adnoids. I don't think it is apnea--she just makes this strange moaning kind of noise. I warn people when she goes for sleep overs--but they STILL get freaked out. Not sure what to do about it-- cindy

There is also a timed release melatonin. The doctor told us about it when our son(with autism) had night terrors and would wake up on the regular melatonin. He has not had any night terrors since we stopped his singular. So we dont use the melatonin. And so far we dont need the melatonin for Kyle. He goes to sleep great and stays asleep almost all the time. Vicki

I have problems with insomia sometimes but then I have the Fibromyalgia. I take medicine for it now and it helps some. This is awful if you can't sleep and then have to deal with it. I hope you can find something to help your daughter.
