This past week we took a 3,000-mile car trip to Virginia/DC and I'm proud to say that Joy did not have a single potty accident the entire time!!
My first inclination was to pack some pull-ups, just in case, but I decided not to because I didn't want to sell her short. Well she did me proud and she traveled like an all-star.
We took plenty of books, crayons and paper, CDs, Play-Doh, etc. and she did great. We stopped now and then at school playgrounds so she could blow off energy and have a snack, and then she would get right back in the car and go to sleep. I am so proud of her. I think by the time she's six, we will be able to do a coast-to-coast trip!!
By the way, we spent the July 1-6 at my uncle's lake house, followed by a day in D.C. It was so great!! I want to spend every 4th of July watching fireworks aboard a pontoon boat!

That's wonderful! How long has she been trained? That's also great that she was so good on the trip. We're going 14 hrs away for our vacation, and I was wondering what kind of stuff he'd do in the car. Books were a given, but then I was kind of stumbling. Did the play-doh work well? This is our first trip since he's been born, because we didn't want to get too far away from his doctors until after his surgery, and he wasn't supposed to go through mountains until after. That was done in Jan, so we're raring to go, just not sure how he'll do on such a long ride!

Portable dvd players are a lifesaver! We went to Mackinac Island three weeks ago (about six hours) and Sarah was wonderful. We took a plane to Texas two weeks ago and Sarah did great without the dvd player. We just did a lot of singing and got quite a few compliments on our singing from a some of the passengers.

I just got a dvd player a couple days ago to take on our trip. I told our 16 yr old he could watch some movies (when he's not driving! ), and Nicholas can watch some of his. He was NOT thrilled about the idea of being trapped in the car for 14 hours listening to Nicholas' dvd's! ;D ;D He says he already goes around humming "all those little kid songs" around all his friends! ;D

Laurie, to answer your question, Joy will be 4 in two weeks.
She has been potty trained for about six months. She has a wonderful babysitter who works with her, so I really credit her for diligent potty training during the day. That made it a lot easier for us in the evenings and on weekends because there was total consistency.
Plus, Joy is just plain brilliant (don't all parents think that, though?)! ;D
