Well last night was a long long night but we made it and now we wait to hear what the results are. I woke up many many times during the night and kept looking at the little machine to see what it said and I saw almost all numbers in the 80's, is this an okay thing and what is the norm? I guess I should have asked this BEFORE the test so I wouldnt have spent all day worrying about what is okay and what isnt. Also his heart rate was anywhere from low 90's down to 77 thru out the night butit was mostly the 81 to 88 oxygen levels that worried me, there was the occasional up to 91, 92, 93, but not to often, or maybe it was just coincidental that everytime i woke up it was low 80's? An older woman I work with said 80 is normal and not to worry so maybe I am doing this for nothing? I am eagerly waiting to hear from you experts...... Heather, Chris, and everyone else who knows about this? I am hoping to hear from the dr tomorrow but they said not to expect the results til Friday. hugs from one very tired nervous mom, Robin

Robin......maybe it was better to not know norms.....then any number seems okay. I can't recall norms......though to be honest....I think 80's are low. Erin had pulse ox done in the few months prior to her heart surgery ( she was only a couple of months old).....I recall it being in the 90's. I did a websearch as I'm sure you already did, too.....couldn't find much......most sites said to consult your docotr as to what is a normal range for you. The only other conclusion I came away with is sleeping pulse ox is lower than full awake.....so could be 80's for sleeping are right on..... Sorry I couldn't give you good answer.....but I'm thinking of you !

Robin, 80's are great for heart rates..........not so good for 02 sats. (93-98 for 02 sats is better!!)
I'm wondering if perhaps the times when the heart rate went a bit higher was at the same time when the oxygen concentration was lower? That would make sense, really. (It would mean that the heart was beating a bit faster to get enough oxygen throughout the body).
So, what do you do now? Do you take him to the doc who ordered the test and discuss the results? I'm eager to hear what the doc says.

I am so glad you had the test done, Robin. I too am eager to hear what the Dr. has to say tomorrow. Please let us know. Remember to ask lots and lots of questions about options before you accept any recommendations. It does sound like his heart is beating a bit faster during sleep to make up for the low sats - not good in the long run, but good to know that he's compensating for it for now.
I'll be checking in tomorrow night to read all about it.

The man child is on oxygen as we speak with a big ole machine making a bunch of racket. I BRIBED the boy with reeses peanut butter cups to get the tubes in his nose and then whe he wa falling asleep, I had Zach turn the machine on and held his hand so he couldnt pull it out and before you know it he was sleeping. I am not silly enough to think he will keep it in all night so I will be up checking all night I am sure. So far the health equipment service said he doesnt need a cpap because that is forced air, and what he needs is oxygen but no one yet can tell me why. The dr had left the office when I called to find out why I got a call saying they were dropping off oxygen for Chase!!!!!! Stayed tuned for more tests was what I heard from the nurse as she knew no more then I did. I am now more nervous than a cat on his last ninth life. I guess I really expected nothing to come from this and it is very scary to me, he has always been so healthy. This also means I have to deal with the almost ex creep who treats me unbelievably bad, last thing I need right now. Okay everyone say extra prayers for Chase okay? hugs, Robin

From what I have seen with my Chris the heart rate seems fine to me but the other numbers seem a bit low but not extremely low. Have you heard anything yet?? Hugs girl I know Chris didn't do well on his sleep study and they suggested the night mask thing and all at the same time said NO way he will tolerate it. Man every time I use to have to bring him in to ER for his heart the little oxygen thing they put in his nose he pulled out as fast as they put it in Please post up when you can. Good thoughts headed your way CC ~

okay, one tired mom speaking from michigan..... I managed to get about four hours of oxygen into him before I gave up and shut the machine off and let him take the nose tubes out for the last time. This is soooooo not going to be easy but mom will win this battle. He goes to his FATHER's apartment tonight, big machine and all, getting it into my ar and over to the police station is going to be a trip and seeing as we dont speak except for his bad use of the english language upon me, I am simply going to hand over the card so he can call for directions form the wonderful man who brought all this stuff to my house. (he went thru a divorce much as mine it seems and 20 year later is still bitter, wow) Now I will spend the weekend worrying Chase wont get any oxygen like he is susposed to but there is nothing I can do about it except pray right? I sent a extra tube and mask to school with Chase for him to practice with his teacher, reward is a reeses pb cup, TG for those. ok, I am on my way to work thru bleary eyes, hugs and love to all, I cant wait to talk to the dr today to see what the deal is for more testing! Robin, you and Chase have my prayers & I'll continue be thinking of you all day - and all weekend. I'm so sorry that you have to put up with such abuse, especially when Chase needs to have both parents on board.
Please let us know what the Dr. says is the next step - I'm guessing it'll be a bronchioscopy - do you have a good ENT? I suspect that the outcome of a bronchioscopy is reliant on accurate interpretation of the images by the ENT who's running the thing.
Try not to worry - trust God if you can; He can give you peace if you are willing. Hugs!

Hey Robin, I found a forum that has a good section devoted to pediatric sleep apnea. I know Chase's situation is a bit different but maybe you could get some info there. www.apneasupport.org/forum-14.html I will be thinking of you guys. Try not to worry too much this weekend-remember he has had this issue for a while and one weekend is not going to cause too much harm- you will all get the hang of it.
