ok... Andrew had an appointment with the doctor yesterday. His OT had told me that Andrew has good upper body tone but very poor lower. And what do you think his doctor had to say?? That's right... "wow, he's very strong in the upper portion but extremely weak in the lower." So..... I was wondering if any of you had this problem, or any exercises for hips. (they think his hips are the worst) I would really like to work on his hips but can't seem to find any hip exercises for kids. His PT has only suggested kneeling which We are doing faithfully but it doesn't seem to be doing too much.
Andrew has "hip helpers" which seem to help a bit with the "rolling out" thing his hips do. He has been checked for any other abnormalities of his hips, dislocation, etc. Do any of you know anything that would help strenghthen his hips? I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks!!! ;D

Alethea's PT just watched Alethea walk in a forward motion for the first time this week. She rotates her entire leg while stepping forward creating her foot to turn inward. Poor hip control is what it comes down to. She suggested we strictly work on cruising the couch and sideways walking. I'm not sure how old Andrew is, but would sideways walking be an option (obviously not if he is 6 months old, but you said he was kneeling, so maybe).
Just a thought for you...

Valerie.... Andrew is 16 months. Yes, I think we could teach him to sideways walk, he hasn't done it before. But if it will help to strenghthen his hips, then sideways walk we will! lol! Thanks for the advice!

How is the sideways walking going? I guess you would have to stand him at the couch or coffee table and actually move his legs to the side for him. I do believe that's how we started Alethea on that long process. Any luck?
