Okay is it just Katie or do our kids have a food obsession?
Today, I was watching Everyday Food on PBS, when it was over, Katie stood up, started bouncing and said.. "FOOD, Over, again? Oh Mon, Again?Pull eeze!!!"
She doesn't quite get the concept that I do not control programming. But it was cute to see she got so excited about food preparation. And to think, the kid won't eat anything but Pizza and Pasta
Hugs,
Cathy... Oh did I mention... TOMORROW, TOMORROW I LOVE YA TOMORROW...school starts!!

Cathy.... I am Laughing very hard here!!... I can relate to Katies "obsession"...I like watching those FOOD shows too!!.... then I like to go and try out all the new recipes!!
Lewis on the other hand just likes to EAT... for him, I would not say it is an obsession.... just a bad Fridge raiding habit!!... I put leftovers in the fridge, and they are NEVER there when I want them again!! But No-one owns up to eating them!! If I ask Lewis... He will look at me and sign "Hungry and Eat"...So I guess that answers where the leftovers go!

Cathy - you need to get Katie a TIVO so she can watch her favorite shows...over and over and over and over....that darned thing was the biggest mistake of my life, LOL!
Meghan is another pizza & pasta kid (and bagels)...anything starchy....I am getting so frustrated w/ her LACK of food choices. I can't get her to eat a single vegetable (and me, the ex-vegetarian, LOL!). picky picky picky. laurie

Oh my, Hannah is not so obsessed with all food but certain foods like Meghan. She will eat cheerios, dinner rolls, prezles, and chicken nuggets. This is the main stay of her diet. It drives me nuts!!!!!! On occasion I can get her to eat other things. She has severe food jags that last a year or more and then moves on to a new favorite. I have to pack her school lunch with a dinner roll with peanut butter everyday.

Heather - I know. it's embarrassing sending lunch to school. She will eat a few different things (bagel w/ cream cheese, grilled cheese, cream cheese & jelly on toast, PB & J...ummmm....I think that's it!) I always wonder what the teachers think...LOL! laurie

Hey Laurie,
At least those foods are transportable, Katie likes EEEEEW her Gerber Baby cereal, pizza, pasta, grilled cheese and OREOS and an occasional (depending on her mood) grilled cheese
that's about it! How do we get them to eat better? That is another question for another day! But then again, her sister is the same way. I used to have to send her butter sandwiches when she didn't like what was on the hot food menu. At least this year, she can ala carte it with Pizza.
Hugs

LOL Cathy. Reece is my food show girl here! She LOVES the cooking shows and watches them with me! So YEAH for Katie!!! Reece actually came and got me the other day and said, "Hey mom, Paula Dean is on, you want to tape it, it's a new one!" LMAO...
Gotta train them young you know!

A,
Now tell Reece she can tape that for me....Cause I love Paula Dean ..
Kourtney is not obsessed with food just, in her words.... Jelly, peanututter, and bread. She also loves Ice cream, only vanilla, and cereal, and tomatoes. She is a picky eater as well..I almost forgot her all time fav other than PB&J.....spagehetti.
I would say that I LOVE the Food TV myself...Get's a little scary sometimes watching "The Iron Chef". I think some of that stuf should not be considered etible...LOL

Sarah LOVES pizza and pasta. My husband's family are Sicilian and my MIL taught me to make a sauce and meatballs. I tried giving Sarah some canned spaghetti once and she had a fit. It has to be the homemade sauce or nothing!
She also loves cheerios, bananas, grapes, watermelon, graham crackers, tortilla chips, French fries, mashed potatoes, homemade Italian breaded chicken, pudding and ice cream. She does not eat a single veggie. I have tried to get her to eat pb & j with no luck. She will eat a grilled cheese sandwich on occasion.
We have decided to have her eat lunch at school since she seems to try new things if other kids are eating them. I hope we expand her menu.
My 15 year old daughter is obsessed with the food network. I think it's funny that she watches it so much especially since I have never watched a single show.

Hey Michele.. we LOVE Paula Dean here!!! She is my fav!!!! I have some others I like to watch but I love Paula Dean (said with a SUthun DRAAAWWW). We also love Unwrapped, another fav of Reece's.. and I like the on guy that goes in the motor home on the road.. forgot the name of that show. We like those history types of shows on Food... kinda neat to watch. Chris... sarah has some good foods to eat there.. alot of foods too! Impressive!!!! Russell eats pasta, applesauce, peaches, nutrigrain bars, mandarin oranges, scrambled eggs, pancakes (who does't love those though LOL) and oatmeal. That about sums it up for that boy. He will partake in ice cream and cake.. but we don't hardly ever give it to him LOL Russell really doesn't do snacky or toddler type finger foods.. never has A.

That's cool that Katy likes to watch food being prepared.
Cassie won't even eat pizza or spaghetti, even though she used to (back before she knew she could be picky) Then for a while she wanted a hot dog everyday for lunch, but she won't eat those now either. I have NO IDEA what I will pack in her school lunch when sheis older but I do know that she will NOT eat the cafeteria food!

Donnita, Funny you should talk about what to pack for lunch. Can you put oatmeal in a thurmos? They won't let him us a microwave to warm chickie nuggets....I could pack a banana I guess but then we have to deal with the constipation....heck I'm glad he has a few pounds to loose!!!! Connie

Alison is another fan of Food Network. She LOVES Emeril - she's always yelling her version of "BAM!' along with him. We're all big fans of Alton Brown - no matter where Alison is in the house when she hears his voice or the theme music - that kid is hi-tailing it in to sit in front of the TV!!!
Unfortunately, she is not as eager to try all of the yummy things she likes to watch being prepared. For the last 2 months, all she will eat has been Cheerios, animal crackers, grapes ( green ones only, don't even THINK about putting red grapes on her dish!!! ), peaches, bananas, PBJ's, gelbwurst ( a German sausage that is very similar to a white bologna, and pierogi ( sort of a Polish ravioli-type thing filled with cheese, sauerkraut, potato, or prunes )!!! The girl is driving me crazy!!! Fortunately for me I don't have to worry about packing a lunch for school, yet!

I love watching cooking shows too! It always looks ssoooooooo good!
Just to add a bit here, my oldest son went through 4 years of school on cheese sandwiches.....yup, that's right.... 2 pieces of american cheese between 2 pieces of bread. How's that for appealing?? I also used to wonder what all the teachers were saying LOL!!

Jason doesn't really care to watch those shows, but Brian and I do. We love to watch Iron Chef, but I agree, some of that stuff is pretty scary.
I feel like the lone ranger on this thread because Jason is soooooo NOT a picky eater! He LOVES his green vegetables. Although I consider him to be a carbohydrate addict, he will actually eat peas, asparagus, whatever green veggie is on his plate before he will touch the starchy food. Really the only things I can think of that he won't eat is ice cream and hard candy. That's about it, and we're not complaining that he won't eat those!
Brian swears that baby girl is going to be the picky eater . . . he thinks she will take after me. Although, you wouldn't know I'm a picky eater by looking at me - LOL! It's usually a "texture thing" for me - I think peas are just about the grossest thing around - that smell, that texture - ugh! LOL
